EG41MF-US2H & 1066Mhz RAM?
« on: October 24, 2012, 01:00:04 pm »
Hi all,

first time poster, so please forgive the essay and my 'noobness'...  :)

I have a EG41MF-US2H motherboard - it works perfectly fine and I have no trouble with it at all.
My system details (running XP):

I've managed to get hold of some Kingston Hyper-X PC2-8500 CL5 240Pin DDR-2-1066MHz RAM (2x2GB sticks) which I thought might make things a bit quicker - I previously had some OZ PC2-6400 (I'm at work and can't remember the exact reference for these).

According to Gigabytes support for the board here:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3469#ov
Then it should be ok....

Popped it in and the machine started up fine with no problems.
Yet Easytune is saying that it's not recognising the RAMs full potential and only shows PC2-6400 400mhz:

I've looked in the BIOS to see if there's any obvious things I can change, but I must admit this is over my head really so unless something literally says 'change RAM to read 1066Mhz' then I'd probably miss it. :)

Could someone please perhaps point me in the right direct (picture of my BIOS options below), or am completely I barking up the wrong tree and it won't run 1066Mhz ram?

many thanks in advance...

 :)

anything over 800MHz is overclocking ddr2 RAM.  You need to change the memory diver for 1066 and raise voltage to specied rating and manually adjust the memory timings for memory.  You didn't specify the exact model number of your memory. (KHX850.....)

"System Memory Multiplier" needs to be set to 1066.
Manually set "Standard Timing Control" to what stick says (5-5-5-15) do not leade on SPD or auto.
"DRAM Voltage" = 2.2v

and you should be good to go.
I doubt if you'll see any difference at all unless you run a benchmark.  800mhz to 1066mhz  is a very small jump especially on a ddr2 system.
