T1125P and Windows 8
« on: October 29, 2012, 05:18:44 am »
So installed Win 8 64 bit on my T1125P tablet/notebook thingo.
According to http://www.gigabyte.com.au/WebPage/104/index.html it is compatible and upgradeable but running in to a couple of issues.
While Gigabyte have updated Win 8 drivers for the Realtek Audio and Nvidia display I had real trouble getting the other audio device (part of the intel GFX) to work but finally got it sorted.
However I still have one unknown device with the hardware ID of ACPI\VEN_GBTD&DEV_0004 and having no luck finding what this is and where to get a driver for it.

Also the latest Smart ManagerV3 is incompatible and keeps causing crashes of the OS. Pain not having this utility as it provides things like screen rotation.
So anyone know what that unknown device is, and if there is going to be a Win8 version of Smart manager?

this won't help you but I've installed windows 8 on my T1125N which is unsupported - and I also have the device ACPI\VEN_GBTD&DEV_0004 with no driver - but I also can't get an NVidia driver to load and it doesn't wake from sleep ... other than that it works ...

Haven't tried the actual Nvidia drivers myself yet, but according to http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-306.97-whql-driver.html they should work with the T1125N as it has an Optimus GFX chipset.

I had the same hardware ID that was missing the driver.
It was gone when I installed Smart Manager 1.8.5. And even better; Smart manager is working under Windows 8. So the trick is to get Smart Manager  working.
In an earlier installation SM was not working on my laptop. Now I first installed all W7 drivers that came with my laptop and finally the SM. So I think it is a fiddeling of the driver installation order.
The only remark I have to make is that I have a Gigabyte T1006 (also not supported by W8). I am now only crashing on the native W8 apps, due to my Intel GMA 3600 graphical chip which is not (en never will be) supported bij drivers from Intel on W8.
Thanks Gigabyte for using this Atom2800 state of the art chip in my one month old laptop.

No 1.8.5 SM for my notebook, only 1.8.8, 1.6.1 and 1.5.9.

Interesting, may have to try again it seems.

Just an update in case anyone else has this issue. Gigabyte have update the Nvidia drivers for win8 64 bit and Smart manager seems to work now, although still getting the odd Win 8 crash for some reason.
Drivers are here
