GA-MA785GM-US2H: Unable to do BIOS update on Windows 8
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:02:24 am »
I'm unable to update bios on my GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard running on Windows 8 Pro

I get the error: "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher" when i try to run 'FLASHSPI'
& "Unsupported 16-Bit Application, The program or feature "\??\C:\Users\technomaniac\Downloads\Gigabyte BIOS\F12f\FLASHSPI.EXE" cannot start or run due to incompatibity with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available" when i try to run 'autoexec'

BIOS update was downloaded from: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3447#
Both 'F12f'(mb_bios_ga-ma785gm-us2h_f12f) & 'F11'(mb_bios_ga-ma785gm-us2h_f11) versions - had the same issue
Running in compatibility mode for 'Windows XP or Windows 7' & the 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' option didn't help either
*Screenshot of the error is attached in this thread

Please check my system details below & help me with this situation:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 8 Pro
Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200
System Model GA-MA785GM-US2H
Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 550 Processor, 3100 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. F5, 16-09-2009

I also wanted to know if installing a ATI 5450 graphics will activate the Hybrid Graphics on this motherboard or not

Hi there,

from your description and screenshot I assume that you are trying to update the BIOS using either the @BIOS utility or trying to run the flashspi.exe from the desktop.

It is safer and often easier to use the QFlash utility to update BIOS and there is a guide here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.msg13929.html#msg13929 which should help you.

With regard to your other question then I believe an ATI 5450 should enable hybrid graphics on this board but I haven't first hand knowledge to confirm this.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
