When using crossfire if you have a gig of ram on both cards it will only show 1 gig. If you have a 2 gig card in first slot and a 1 gig card in second slot it will still only read 1 gig. It reads the lowest clock of both cards ie as in a reg clock of 850 and a overclocked card of 895 it will show the clock of 850 and the same with ram it shows the lowest amount on 1 card.

The advantage of crossfire is using two core clocks to render your images wheter you do it half and half or blocks. So your frame rates will improve with two cards. Not double but they will improve from 15 to 40%.

I used to always use crossfire till i figured out it would be better to buy a 6950 or 6970 instead of two 6870's per say as the 6950 and 6970 have 2 gigs of ram and a higher clock and 2 of the 6870's you could buy the better card and have better frame rates and less hgeat in your set up.
