Z77X-UP4 TH turns on randomly

Z77X-UP4 TH turns on randomly
« on: September 26, 2012, 09:03:58 am »
my computer with the z77X-UP4 TH just turns on randomly...
sometimes I wake up in the morning, and it has booted, even though I turned it off the night before
sometimes I come home, and the computer is on, even though I turned it off before I left

and I'm pretty sure, nobody is trolling me by turning on my computer when I'm not looking :)

I tired to turn off wake-on-lan...but I can't find the setting in the bios...

is this some sort of known issue? anybody have any ideas what might cause this?

thank you

Hi and welcome.

Bloody gremlins!

The most likely cause is that you have a bit of a iffy power switch. Try disconnecting it from the motherboard and se if the issue still arises. You will have to turn on the computer from the motherboard itself while you are testing it.

If it doesn't happen inside a couple of days I think that you can safely sayu that was what it was and replace the switch and cable.

hey, thanks for the quick reply

what d'you mean by I have to "turn on the computer from the motherboard while testing it"
is there any other way to turn it on? the power-button is directly connected to the motherboard....

Well I must admit I said that without checking as most new motherboards have a couple of buttons built in that allow you to simply press one of them to give power to the board. After having a look though yours doesn't seem to have this option. The only other way is to use the two pins that the power switch connected to and simply short them out briefly to have the same effect as pressing the button.

well I've tried disconnecting/reconnecting the power.
It didn't jump start on it's own for a while - up until a week ago.
and now it happens almost every day.

I've already tried reconnecting the power several times - but the computer is turned on most mornings, when I wake up

UPDATE:

I now figured out that his ONLY happens, when I hibernate windows (windows 8)

whenever I shutdown the computer, it's off for good.
but whenever I hibernate it, it will just turn back on a couple of hours later.

and it happens consistantly - whenever I hibernate, the computer will ALWAYS start-up again in a couple of hours

is there anybody who knows why this happens??
