Which Memory to get ?
« on: December 30, 2009, 06:39:19 pm »
 Hello,

Am having
AMD PhenomII X4 955
MA790FXT-UD5P , F7
HD 5850
Tt 750watt

And considering buying one of these :
G.skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ (already stated that it will support my MoB on Gigabyte website)
or
G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL (already stated on G.Skill to support my chipset and MoB and I prefer it for the better heatsink it have)

Which one to select ? I had already posted a topic about BIOS recommendation for the second one and while I was searching I found the first, So I though I need to ask about them coz they are both supporting AMD790FX with almost the same price and specifications.

Regards,,,

Hi,
I can see very little difference bettween the two other than the heatsinks,
cooler your memory runs the better in my book,
as long as the colour matches your rig,
cheers

I like this memory. 7-7-7-24 timings are better/faster than the 9-9-9-24 than the ones you have mentioned.

I do find the first more compatible as its mentioned on 'Recommanded Memory' on Gigabyte for my MoB
And yes , the second is also better coz of the heatsink

Still very hesitated

Looks good , but I can see that It might be compatible ... I had a really bad experience with Patriot Mem , that was supporting mainly P55 and It wasn't compatible with my build so I had to return it!

Here's a review from newegg with the same mainboard as you using the memory I suggested.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231279

(Pros: Just works. Fast. Stable. Managed to purchase a few months ago for $94

Cons: Pricey but not compared to other CL7 RAM so not really a con. Wish I could afford more. PLease bring the price down NEWEGG!

Other Thoughts: Tried MUSHKIN before - Mistake. Should have just stayed with the ROCK. Never disappointed. Any problems I have had were never due to the RAM. Always a motherboard problem.

AMD Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
AMD PII 955 BE

Originally could not get this to work with the Motherboard. Had to tweak trimmings and voltages to keep at 1600MHz. Also could not get CL7. But again Gigabyte finally put out another BIOS update and WHAMO the Memory is flawless at spec with tweaking anything.

Compatibility problems are with the MOTHERBOARD NOT the RAM)
