USB 3.0 Problem on GA-970A-UD3 rev. 1.2
« on: December 08, 2012, 11:16:08 am »
Hello everybody

I own this wonderfull AMD AM3+ motherboard and I had no problems with it until yersterday when I wanted to use the USB 3.0 interface system. I have read a lot about the Etron 168 chip that Gigabyte & ASRock is using on their moterboards but I had hoped that the problems was over.

Now I had updated my BIOS, mounted a USB 3.0 front panel from CoolerMaster and installed all the drivers for the USB 3.0 Host and I still can´t use my USB sticks in the ports. Well in the beginning I could use the sticks efter a reboot ore if i close the computer down, but not any longer. I don´t know why.

Is there any opportunity that Gigabyte will get som drivers that works??

There is not much fun of having the USB 3.0 funktion if it dosen´t work. I had testet the fornt panel for bieng 3.0 and 2.0 compatible and no problems there. I can also see on Gigabyte´s hompeage that the USB 3.0 ports are both 3.0 and 2.0 compatible so now I can do mouch more

I think that it´s very frustrating that Gigabyte is still using this chip when there´s is no compatible drivers who works correctly tp the Etron Chip?

Maybe Gigabyte will answer this question.

I am assuming you have it hooked into an internal usb connector. Make sure the internal connector is usb3 as they have both inside.

I have cheked this, and the USB 3.0 connector does not fit in the USB 2.0 connect on the motherboard and the plud cannot go wrong because it can onlye sit in one way in the connector.

So this isen´t the problem.

I had tjecked the backside ports, and they gave me the same results.

You need to check in the BIOS to make sure that BOTH the front and rear USB3 ports are turned ON.
If they are,  then in Windows you need to UNINSTALL the Etron USB3 drivers and then reinstall them to be recognized by Windows.

That has always worked for me ( I have 4  970A-UD3 boards).

They are turned on both of them, and i had installed alle the drivers they way you told me 2, and I still can get them to work with USB 2.0 devices. And with 3.0 devices they work with a slow speed like USB 2.0

No problems with USB 3.0 Speeds on version 1.0 here.
But ( maybe ,in my case due to a not fresh OS installation ) one of the Etron chips will get a yellow bang in the Device manager that fixes itself or by reinstalling the driver.

Overall the board is not really what it looks like ,not a great release in my opinion, based on the personal usage :)

Det drivers works, and there is no yellow bangs in the device manager fron the Etron chips.

I had read a lot of problems with the Etron USB 3.0 chips both on Gigabyte and ASRock boards. Overall I really like the board but the Etron chip dosen´ t work a it should

All i can say is that the Renesas is on par with the Etron speed wise with my 2 boards.
Maybe the BIOS is bugged .
