Cannot get pci slot with 1394 card to work
« on: December 31, 2012, 01:38:21 pm »
I have the following system GA-F2A85XM-D3H FM2 Motherboard.
       AMD A10 5700 running at 3.4 Gz
      8GB of memory etc.
The problem is that the camcorder is not recognised by windows 7 64 bit
when plugged in (ie no ding dong). I have tested the 1394 pci firewire card on several other computers and found it works perfectly.
In device manager the card is shown correctly as 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), the device is working properly, no conflicts.
Maybe there is something set wrong in the bios but I have tried everthing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

The other systems I have tried it on were windows 7 32 bit and windows 7 64 bit where it worked fine and also with two different 1394 pci cards.
One brand is a new SWEEX 3+1 Port Fire Wire Card PCI and the other is a much older generic card from PC line.
Have been trying to make it work for quite a while now, but with no success.

Hi there,

Are your chipset drivers up to date?

Have you tried clearing CMOS and resetting BIOS?
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thanks, I have reflashed the bios with 2A85XMD3.F1 2.93mb zip file but it has made no difference. Can't think of anything else to do now but get in touch with the suppliers of the motherboard.

As this is a new mobo with no new bioses released as yet, i would say there could be a fault with the bios that hasn't yet been discovered. Manufacturers often rely on feedback for info on faults. If you was to get in touch with Gigabyte and give them all the info you can I'm sure they will work on it for you, and send you a beta bios. I've actually done this myself and have recieved beta bioses within 24hrs.

Update     I have contacted gigabyte support and they advised me to reflash bios with an updated version, but this did not work. In the meantime I purchased a second pci (express) 1394 card that actually said compatable with windows 7 64bit, only cost £8/$12 from Ebay. With this card my firewire panasonic camcorder was immediately recognised by pc but would not import video into windows movie maker until I had changed driver to legacy type. Now everything is fine. Strangely the previous two cards worked fine on another pc with win7 64bit. Just another mystery of computers I suppose? Problems are for solving.   Thanks for support from forum.
