P55A-UD3 internal speaker single beeps

Had the same "beeping" issue with my new system where the system speaker would issue a single beep on an irregular basis. System - P55a UD4, i750, W7 64. In addition, I had slow read speeds using AS SSD @4K from my Crucial SSD (AHCI) which had been fine on my old system.

Both issues were solved when I increased the voltage to my RAM to 1.64 (spec is 1.65 for my OCZ Gold) as this was being under volted at 1.5v. At the same time, I also disabled power saving features CPU EIST, CPU Enhanced Halt & also disabled Performance Enhance (adv memory settings) which was set at Turbo.

Not sure which setting did the trick, but I thought I would post as the beeping has ceased and as a bonus, my SSD read speed has been restored. Once I've established the setting causing the beeps, I'll post again.

Wow thanks for the info. Wonder if I  should let Gigabyte support know what you found out. ;-)

Thanks for that!

Now I am even more convinced that my memory is at least one source of trouble. Im sending my memory slots back to the store now and then im gonna buy a new pair of another brand. This time i will make sure that it is 1.5v memory.

Saibot85 - I'd holdfire before returning the RAM. I'm not convinced it is the RAM voltage. I have just altered the RAM voltage back to Auto and the beep has not returned. I aim to re-enable settings in turn to establish which one causes the issue.

Also, Gigabyte have posted a beta bios yesterday - version F7a (P55a UD4) & F5c (P55a UD3) with the reason "enhanced memory compatibility". As it's a beta, you use it at your own risk, but it may possibly sort your issue.

I'm going to stick with the latest release bios and try and isolate the setting causing the issue.

yeah i did see that. I haven't flashed the BIOS to the newer version yet though.

Great that it works at 1.5 volts too. Hope you find what causes the beeping. For me, i think i still gonna return the RAM cause i still got time to do it and it dosen't cost me anything but time. And i heard alot of bad stuff with those i got now so i think its best for me to replace them. I really hope this solves the problem for me.

Let us know when u find the problem!

Having spent the evening trying the various settings, it appears that the following issues are both caused by the C3C6C7 Support State setting. If this is set to "auto", the following problems arise:

1. Irregular single beep from the system speaker
2. Reduced 4k read speed from my SSD drive. Screenshots show the effect on the 4k read speed in the AS SSD benchmark:

Great.

So you come around this problem by setting the RAM voltage to manual and 1,64 (1,65)?

No -I left the voltage at default i.e. 1.5v as that did not cause the issue. All I had to disable was the bios setting "C3C6C7 Support State" and that resolved both the beeping and slow read speeds.

With me I was not made aware of the beta bios through my contact with Gigabyte support directly so with the F4 bios I had to change the Dram voltage to 1.64 and QPI to 1.21 in order to have a stable system which did not BSOD stop code 124 on me. The beeping of course was still occurring.

I delvered the computer to person who I built it for so have no access to the computer and do not know if flashing with the F5C bios would allow lower voltage settings.

It is very strange too since my first contact with Gigabyte support via email was due to an error on my part when I mistakingly though the F5 bios on the Tiwian website was for the P55A-UD3 when it was an different board. They never mentioned an existance of the F5C bios for the UD3 nor that it was about to release this week.

Disabling C3C6C7 support actually seems to have solve the problem for me too.

Thanks alot!

Glad it worked. It would be great if Gigabyte support could throw some light on the potential cause.

My new P55A-UD4 (Rev1.0) was also doing this.

I set "C3/C6 State Support" to disabled and the problem went away.  I'd like to know what was causing it though.

Any update on the origin of this issue?

Hi,

By disabling C3/C6/C7 support, the problem went away. Unfortunately, I only received a generic response when I submitted a support ticket, but the most likely cause is detailed in this post pointing to a bug in the Intel processor:
