GA K8n pro ( non SLI ) Memory QUESTION?
« on: January 10, 2013, 01:00:01 pm »
I am still using an old k8n pro with F14 bios, an Athlon 64 3400 cpu, 200hmz base clock  and i'm trying to install 3gb of Kingston KTD8300/1G  pc 3200 (400mhz) ddr ram.  my problem is if i turn the memory speed up higher than 266 with 3gb installed it will not run stable and 333 or higher it will  freeze at the first screen and not let me go into the bios.  if i install only 2gb i can  set the ddr speed to 400 no problem.
is there something with this board that requires a lower ddr speed with larger quantities of ram or is there something wrong here?
I set the ddr voltage to +0.1 as 3200 runs at 2.6v instead of 2.5, please let me know  if this is wrong?
also when it says "ddr speed 400" (multiplier 2/2) that is the correct setting for pc 3200 right?  i know different motherboards present it differently.

Try 2,7 Volts as well ,it s ok.

What 3Gigs of RAM mean ,how many sticks ?!

If more than 2 sticks expect the speed to be 266Mhz.
With 1/2 sticks you may achieve higher.
I have had  in the last 3 years Kingston memory and it never worked at the stated speed with more than one stick from a kit installed. :)

try detting your ram at unganged nad se if it helps.

Ganged/Unganged appeared along first Phenom release ,there is no such setting in his system.

Over & Out !

i tried pushing it to 3.7 with no difference.  i was wrong it will only run at 200 mhz with the 3 sticks in.  i might try pulling one out,  it will still be double the ram i had before and if i can run it faster it should be better overall because with the ram running at 200 the computer is pretty sluggish.
