Assassin 2 raid 0 SSD trim question

Assassin 2 raid 0 SSD trim question
« on: January 21, 2013, 03:05:39 pm »
I have had my bait for a few months and recently decided to test the SSD raid 0. I have two mushkin 240gb chronos deluxe ssd's in raid 0. I initially installed windows 7 64 bit with the preload drivers from USB before widows installed. Crystal mark is showing 330mb sec read and 450'ish write. Seems really slow for raid 0 SSD.

I am guessing trim wasn't supported initially with the x79/c600 controller. Now trim is supported by rst drivers? I just updated my bios to the latest non beta. I tried installed the two different rst drivers from gigabytes website but it says no supported hardware found. My controller shows c600 and all is working with no ? Marks or excel action marks in device manager. I tried removing the driver and rebooting but widows wouldn't boot, blue screen. So I restored my backup image and all is back up know. But I can't seem to get the latest drivers installed and my slow 330mb concerns me.

Any ideas?

Thanks you!

Since you have a slow read speed you might have installed the drives on the marvell controller as thats the speed i got when i used the marvel controller. You will need beta bios f12i as that has the rst orom in the bios trim will not work unless you do this first.
1 Make sure you use intel chipset controller sata 3 ports
2 Check your bios is set to rst not rste with above bios you have the option of rst or rste make sure you set it to rst.
3 Hit control i to configure intel raid controler
4 Select stripe size (usually 128kb works well) also select volume name and size.
5 Load windows as you would normally no pre install driver required as windows allready has them for rst mode.
6 Go to intel web site and down load and install rst driver 11.7 (only the driver not the whole software package) should be around 0.4Mb in size.
This will enable trim commands and also increase your drives speed. Marvel controller only operates at pcle-x1 bandwidth which is only around 5Gb/s instead of chipset controller which will give you around 12 Gb/s (6Gb/sec x2). Hope this helps

Thank you for the advice. I update to the beta bios. Downloading the 11.7 rst. When I run it it says Thai system does not contain the hardware or meet the minimum required or something along those lines.

Make sure your bios is set to RST and not RSTe. Once you have installed windows from the device manager update the raid control driver to 11.7.0.1013 (0.3Mb approx) by manually selecting the driver. When you download driver from intel have you un zipped it? Also are you sure that you are only installing the driver and not the whole RST software package? The sofware package itself wont work on a raid. Is this message coming up during windows install or after you have installed windows? You cant install this driver until windows is installed. You wont need a driver during windows install as windows 7 has a driver to suit built in.
