GA-X79-UD3(rev. 1.0) will not boot intel i7-3820

We have a problem with the system failing to boot you press the power on it spins up all the fans then shuts off.
After a couple of seconds the system attempts to start again, we have done a little google research and it appears there is an issue with the bios that requires an upgrade but as we are unable to get the board to actually run up we cannot do this.

Can we return the board to gigabyte for this? we are unable to tell you the bios ver on this board as it wont boot to the post screen etc etc etc Help pleease! regards Stuart

Can you list what components you have......eg

Power supply?

Video?

Memory?

How are you cooling the cpu? Air, water? Have you got thermal paste on the heatsink?

You will need to provide more info on your setup so we can try help.

Not sure how this will help though as the system will not boot to the post screen presumably because the bios does not recognize the processor! or maybe i'm being a wally 
the only way i can see of updating this boards bios is to fit a lesser processor that it will recognize update then refit the 3820 (unfortunatly i havent got one and nor does anyone i know )

any help appreciated though

Ok can you boot with just 1 stick of ram? If you can go directly into Bios and set it to load optimised defaults and then try booting.

No can do...... all it does is pulse the fans on and off at 2 second intervals 1 stick of ram, all sticks of ram, with graphics or without graphics we have tried just about everything but no go

but suggest away maybe we've missed something!

By the way this is a new straight out of the boxes build & feeling a little frustrated now, its a while since i have built my own and i thought i'd give it a crack again so am a little disappointing that nowhere is it mentioned that this chip is not supported its only because i have this problem that it's come to light that  it maybe caused by the bios

It could very well be the bios is not supporting that chip and it may need to be flashed so it will work. That is not saying the board wont work with that chip, just need a newer Bios. I would take the board out of the case and assemble your build on a box or something non conductive just to rule out any short that you maybe getting from the case.

Don't get disheartened, this is all part of the learning curve and you will learn valuable lessons from things going wrong. We all learn and still are. But yeh I feel your pain when things just aren't going right LOl.

Chin up and you'll get to the bottom of it for sure!

Tried setting up on a piece of cardboard still no go also tried my PSU in another machine...... works fine.

Did you manage to solve this problem? I have the same MB and chip and I'm had similar problems with 2 off 2x8Gb RAM sticks installed (I realise using 2 kits isn't recommended). The system works perfectly with just one kit installed i.e. 2 slots occupied.

I have an GA-X79-UD3, BIOS F11 (although it came with F7) and an i3820. I have 4xDD3 2133 sticks clocked at 1648Mhz. No problem booting and infact I even run the CPU overclocked at 40x103MHz. I think your card may be bugged, RMA?

What you will run into later is that the onboard Intel 82579V NIC if connected to a Netgear 1G switch will not give better throughput than a 10M link, you will need to manually change to 100M to get 100M performance. I will buy a Realtek chip NIC and run on that instead. Well known problem with the X799-UD3 apparently.

I can get my NEW mobo/PC to boot properly using a Zotac 560 Graphic card or an older Sparkle 265 card. Any attempt to
get my lovely Asus 670 to get beyond the bios splash screen has so far met with failure. Bioses are all the latest to the best
of my knowledge. The Asus runs wonderfully in my other 2 PCs ( Mobo makes withheld).
Basically,try another graphic card.

There is a new BIOS for the GA-X79-UD3 mobo on the Gigabyte Taiwan website.
It is Version F12xx and I have not tried it yet. It's a Beta one so best of luck !!

Have you reset your CMOS and took the battery out for a few secounds to make sure it resets.Make sure your memory default voltage is 1.5v. then when you turn it on hit the end key and see if that will take you to Q-flash.

Re resetting the CMOS, this reboot loop has happened to me also. The way out is definetly the CMOS reset which will set the system back to optimize defaults, or at least ask for it, allowing you to get into the setup again.

On a related note to my earlier posting, I today upgraded to the beta F12p and my gigabit speed came back. Huge difference from F11.
