Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Pin query
« on: February 18, 2013, 08:38:29 pm »
Hello,

I bought and fitted a new mobo 4 days ago and at the time I skipped connecting the Power LED plug, I thought I'd do it now and I'm a little puzzled.
My new gigabyte mobo has 3 pins for the Power LED (17-19) but my tower Power LED cable only has 2 pins.

is it possible to connect it and if so, which pins do I plug in?

Thank you

The manual describes the pins on the motherboard exactly.

The power LED cable should have 2 wires with separated mini connectors.

If you are not connecting them the right way the led will not be lit ,so positive motherboard terminal should take to colored power LED wire and the ground one should take the neutral color (white, brown or black)
Over & Out !

AMD FX (APU-s included) users should install - KB2645594 & KB2646060 under Windows 7

1.ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0 + FX 6300 + H60
2.MSI A88X-G41 PC Mate + A8 5600K + Hyper TX 2
3.Gigabyte F2A75-D3H + A4 5300
4.ASUS AM1M-A + Athlon 5150

Yes the manual says there are 3 pins on the connector for the Power LED

pin 17 Power led+, pin 18 nothing, pin 19 Power led-

Which leads me to believe the connectors should be connected to 17 and 19 but...

my tower power led cable has 2 pins, not 2 seperate ones, but 2 joined together (like the reset switch one)
and obviously it won't fit on pins 17-19 it would only fit on 17-18 or 18-19.

So, I'm puzzled?!

This is some kind of a case bug :).
Most cases have them split.

You can play with the connector though taking the metal clips out of the plastic thing. So if you have on the other connections (buzzer,Sw)  split mini connectors you can switch between them easily .By using a needle you can dismantle them.

You could also try putting the connector in all possible positions between the 2 pins.Maybe the middle one is connected to one of the 2 needed ,who knows. An ohm-meter could check that.
By connecting it no harm should happen as it s a LED ,so try and see.

Never encountered the problem personally. Some cases even have a case LED connected directly to the PSU.

Otherwise let it be ,less annoying light if the PC stays up during the night. :)

Thanks for that and yes, I think its safer to simply leave it off rather than risk causing damage.
