GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 hangs at motherboard splash USB lose power.

Hey first time poster.

just built a new comp and everything was going great for2 days.

I have
GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5
SAPPHIRE 100355-1GOCL Radeon HD 7850
AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3
OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-120G (SSD)
WD GREEN 1TB HDD
Windows 7 Home 64x

Comp worked fine for 2 days. I was doing a windows update came back PC had restarted and I was on windows password screen. typed in password and even though it was correct it was not accepted. I unplugged keyboard and put it back in then keyboard had no power. I was like ok keyboard error restarted the comp and see if it works. The comp will post fine then it just freezes at the motherboard splash screen. USB devices seem to have power but when you unplug them and plug them back in they will not have power. I can not even press Del to get into Bios screen.

This also happened right after I put in 1TB hard drive. But I have tried disconnecting it and it does not change anything. Also if I ever do get the comp to start  2 times since this happened the 2 hard drives work flawlessly.

Things I have tried.

I have unplugged all USB devices and then started up. This worked the first time I tried it and never again.
I have tested with 1 of each stick of ram. No change.
I have unplugged the 1TB HDD. No change.
I have reset CMOS using a metal object to reset the pins with power drained. Worked 1 time. I was so scared to turn my comp off I left it on for 2 days and it worked perfectly while actually in Windows was able to game and use all USB devices perfectly.

So far tonight trying everything that has worked in the past will not work again I have read allot of posts about issues like mine between freezing on the splash and USB devices not responding but not really seeing any resolutions that make the issue actually go away. Last step I guess is RMAing the board because it has to be a hardware issue. Just wondering if anyone else has any input I can try before having to wait weeks to get this replaced?

Thank you for any responses.

I see no power supply specified in there.
You must have one ,what is it s name ?!

If it s a "firecracker"(no name/funky names)  stay no more and buy a real PSU.
A 700W+ power supply should be ok.
Something like OCZ ,Corsair ,Enermax ,Seasonic or even Chieftec.

Lets hope it s not to late and the mobo is still healthy. My intuition tells me the PSU might be the culprit here.

Clear CMOS removing the battery as well and check the battery with a voltmeter.

Thanks totally forgot to put down my PSU.

 CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-650TX 650W

The thing is it runs perfectly fine the times I did get it to boot past the opening splash.

I will try removing the battery while clearing the CMOS see if that helps me log in.

Is that PSU new or used (2-3 years of usage ?! ) ?!

I have had such power supply for 2 years and a half almost ,had the first revision.
I have sold it and after some months the guy that had it told me he had issues with the PC and finally the PSU died.It has a bug with the fan controller so maybe heat shortened the life of that thing.

So if it s not new you should try and use a different power supply just to make sure the PSU is not the culprit.

Otherwise RMA  the motherboard.

The PSU is only a week old. All the parts are brand new. yeah I sent a Email to Gigabyte in their customer support forums so hopefully they answer monday because they are closed on weekends and they are only open when I am at work.

You should still check the PSU in a good known to work PC though just to make sure it s ok.

So I called Gigabyte and they basically suggested I test everything I already did and test different vid cards and PSU but then said it most likely is a board issue and to RMA it.

I did some more testing and found I was able to get into the Post screen to see where it was actually freezing.

My comp will load :

Memory 16GB OK

Then my
IDE channel 0 master : none
IDE channel 0 slave : none
IDE channel 1 master : DVDRAM
IDE channel 1 salve : none
IDE channel 2 master : OCZ - Vertex my SSD
IDE channel 2 salve : WDC - WD10ezrx - my 1tb HD

Then
Detecting IDE drives ....

This is where it stops and freezes I have tried putting all the devices before this point and after this point and it will not change the fact after the channel 2 SATA slots it will freeze up even with no Satas connected.

So I def think at least I know what is wrong with the board somewhere in the post it is hanging up on the sata ports and clearing CMOS will not repair it.

Let me know if you agree with what I am seeing here I will prob put in the RMA order for my board tomorrow.

You don't say which BIOS version you are running but, if it is not the latest, F12a, it would be worthwhile updating to it and seeing if that helps.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Hey yeah now that I am able to get into the Post screen I could see that I am running F11 BIOS version but I still would not be able to flash it because it freezes before I can get into BIOS or the FlashQ. Just going to call the retailer and have them RMA it for me. I loved this board and how it ran the 3 times I actually got the thing to boot properly hope the new one does not have any issues.
