GA-EP41-UD3L dont recognize all 4 slots of memory.
« on: January 25, 2010, 05:18:00 pm »
Hello everyone ,
First post here .

I recently bought a motherboard and a processor.
MB: Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L
CPU : E7400 (Freq:2.8Ghz , FSB 1066 , 3MB cache)

All fine here.
I had home 4x1GB DDR2 667MHZ M378T2953EZ3-CE6 .(Samsung)

In my motherboard i have 4 memorry slots.
If i use any of the those memory in slots 1 and 3 it works (having 2GB).
If i add in slot 2 and slot 4 the other 2 i cant use it , the computer simply enters in a reset loop.
I switch those 4 dimms in all ways and still nothing.only in 1 and 3.
Someone told me that the issue is that the MB was ment for 800Mhz not 667Mhz like my memory.
But if 2 works why not 4?
I made the Bios Update from F4 to F5 ..nothing.
Someone else sugested i should play with the memorry and put it lower the 667 and the computer might see all of these..tried that ...still nothing.
What is odd , is the fact that in Gigabyte memory list they have Samsung that works with DDR2 , 667Mhz but 4GB module.

If someone has an ideea (exept buying new memory ) what to do please tell me.

Thank you ,
Bogdan

Hi,
Is that memory single sided, chips on one side only SD, if so it will only use 2 sticks,
I think you will have to use 2x2gb DS (double side) memory in two slots for the total of 4gb,
you can use it in dual memory configuration though,
Check with your manual for memory configuration,
Unless you are running a 64 bit o/s you will only see 3.2 due to a windows limitation,
cheers

OS : Win 7 32 bit.

Hi,
Ok, try raising the memory voltage in 0.1 increments,
maybe with 4 sticks the memory is undervolted,

When you upgraded the bios did you reset bios to default settings, and then set your memory/cpu  voltage to manufactures specs on post?
cheers

That motherboard - same one as me - Does not support 4 * DS ram.
You can either have 4 * SS or 2 * DS or 1 * QS (managed to find an 8GB stick that said it was Quad sided - not brought but guessing the limitation goes that way as well)

Bit of a pain really but 4GB is ok for time being, unless you wanna spend £100 per 4GB kingston DS chip you will have to leave it I am afraid

Cheers

I've got the same problem:  I have a GA-P55A-UD4.  I put four 1-gig sticks in the four slots and it only recognizes two.  The sticks all work, because I tested them in another computer.  This is my first build and I don't know the tech jargon, so plain English, if you don't mind?  BTW, Win 7 says I have 4 gigs of ram, but only two are usable.  In the bios, I can tell it to "pretend" I have six, but it seems to slow my system down.  Should I keep it on "auto?"
I'd like to have four gigs, so if you can give me a brand name and type, I'd like to order it from Newegg or somebody else.
Thanks for your patience.

Hi palavering

We will discuss it here:

as you did too many duplicated posts about the same problem
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)

No doubled sided 4 channel memory support.

You can enable all 4 channels for single sided RAM in the advance BIOS options on the likes of the P31 (I don't know if it's the same still) but from experience, always use 2x 2GB sticks.

Old problem. We also used to find the BIOS undervolts the RAM - Corsair had a huge thing with their RAM and you had to manually set it to like 2.1v in order for it to work correctly.
