990FXA UD3 3 Long Beeps after F9 Bios Updating
« on: April 08, 2013, 10:18:07 pm »
Hi there,
Motherboard 990FXA-UD3 rev 1.0, now I have on a Phenom II x3 720 processor, but i Bought a new FX-6300, and I read on the site that I need to update the bios to the last version to support it (now I have the F2 bios currently).

I tryed to do it by Q-Flash and @Bios, trying to put on the F9 Bios, but when I install it, at the folowing boot up, the PC makes 3 long beeps, pause, than 3 long beeps and so on....and the monotor is BLACK: I only manage to get back to Bios screen by unplugging ram or SATA channels randomly before booting up. When i manage to boot up, windows gives an error:
STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Some other times the PC says that the bios is corrupted and it will restore the backup one: doing this doesnt solve nothing.
I managed to reinstall the F2 bios that I had saved on my USB key, useing Q-Flash, and with the backupped F2 bios the PC starts up and goes well!

So, is the F9 bios bugged??? Which bios should Iinstall before putting up my FX-6300? Will the F8 bios be good? Will the F8 Bios starts up my PC???

Thanks

Long beeps = RAM problems.
Remove one RAM stick and see what happens.

If with one stick is ok ,use Q-Flash instead of the Windows utility and flash to a different BIOS version that supports your CPU.

After BIOS updates you also need to Clear CMOS properly as per manual.

LE:Forgot to ask you what is the hardware revision of the board as i see each revision has different naming nomenclature for BIOS files.
I see a F10A in there also so you may be able to try that too after we know for sure what hardware revision you have.
Hardware revision number  is written on the mobo in the lower left side and should be on the box too noted.

I tried 2 times with the Q-Flash with no positive results, than I tried one time by windows with @Bios. (after each bad result, I reloaded the backup F2 bios with the Q-Flash always).

Finally I tried last time with @Bios, with only one ram module in the motherboard (I had 4 in total), and the bios seems to be updated properly and working now.
I resored all the Ram modules and the PC works well...I really donìt know what could have been the problem!!!

P.S.The ardware revision, as I wrote in the beginning, is the first one, v1.0 as written on the motherboard itself
Thanks for your replay, I really would like to know which was te issue....:-)

I don t know ,seen strange behavior with my 970A_UD3 v1.0 too :)
This 9xx based boards from Gigabyte have a mind of their own sometimes :)

Maybe some RAM stick was not properly installed/inserted from the start.

I Should tell you that my four memory sticks are of two different brands (two twin modules from Corsair, and two twins from Geil, same latency, frequency and so on). I have never had problems with the ram since the first day I installed them, that was about two years ago, so I doubt they could be a problem...however, maybe the new bios is more sensitive to different brands....I hope not so.
The important thing is that I solved the problem....!!!!
