78LMT-USB3 & FX-6100 Crashing (BSOD)

78LMT-USB3 & FX-6100 Crashing (BSOD)
« on: April 27, 2013, 05:58:27 am »
The sound failed in my ASUS MotherBoard, so I replaced it with a 78LMT-USB3. I started getting crashes when running CPU-Z, Performance test 8.0, IBT. I then set fail-safe defaults in BIOS, did a clean install of W7x64 but still I had the problem. It actually got worse after I finished installing the last of the drivers. The only one that W7 didn't install was USB3 drivers. I installed the Gigabyte chipset drivers and the USB3 drivers and now it crashes most of the time after login but before making it to the desktop. I found someone with the exact same problem here http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=10883.0 , but there was no resolution. I PMed him to see what he figured out)

I tried different memory, Power Supply and Video card, nothing worked. Then I put in my older P II 955 BE and it seems to be working. I ran Prime 95 for an hour or so and restarted a half dozen times. I can not get it to crash.

The FX-6100 worked fine in the ASUS motherboard, and I can put that motherboard back to test it again if needed, but if the CPU tests fine and the  78LMT-USB3 works fine with other CPUs, how do I know which one actually has the prob? I would guess the motherboard, it has F4 BIOS, and as I said all setting are "stock", fail-safe defaults.

help :(

I put in a P II 955BE I have and it works fine. Ran Prime 95 for about an hour, rebooted multiple times. When I put the FX-6100 back it crashed on first boot. The FX chip worked fine in a different motherboard just 2 days ago. Any ideas?

The motherboard is not fully compatible.
A BIOS update would be needed ,but it wont come.Newer boards had it last year in march.
Get an AMD 9xx chipset  based board.

PS:On-board sound cards fail due to the power supply usually,so you should take a look at that too ,even though my previous statement remains.
Also to get around the issue you can buy a sound card ,or find a skilled guy to replace your sound chip on the first board.Maybe the Gigabyte sound chip could fit in there :)

It is an AM3+ motherboard with latest BIOS and fantastic reviews on Newegg, I am sure it is "fully compatible". If it listed as AM3+ CPU compatible, it wouldn't have great reviews if it didn't work with the first gen AM3+ CPU.

So you are using version 4.1 of the board ?!

1.List the full hardware configuration including power supply
2.Update to the latest BIOS
3.Clear CMOS
4.Set SATA ports in IDE Mode in BIOS
5.Disable CPB (coreboost/ turbo boost ),Disable C1E and Disable APM in BIOS
6.Make a clean Windows installation from scratch
7.Install FX W7 drivers (techpowerup has them handy)
8.Install AMD sb /chipset drivers from AMD website
9.Install Etron drivers
10 Install LAN
11.Install Video drivers
12 Install sound card drivers

The Etron drivers are tricky ,the lucky ones only have the device disappearing randomly.
Power supply is an important factor .keep in mind.
