Help Needed! GA 7N400 Pro2 motherboard
« on: May 11, 2013, 09:40:51 pm »
Hello,
I  wanted  to revive an old pc with GA 7N400 Pro2 motherboard. To do this I have assembled  one of my HDDs. When I try to install Win XP SP3 with SATA drivers, I recieve the following error: ´´STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF9E49528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).´´

´´A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your comuputer.

if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. if this screen appears again, follow thers steps. Check for viruses on you computer. remove any newly installed hard drivers or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.

Run CHKDSK/F ro check to hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Tehnical information : STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF9E49528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)´´

This is the HDD: WD Caviar Blue ´´WD2500AAJS´´ 250GB.

Thanks in Advance.

Thats the error that shows up when the driver loaded for the HDD controller is wrong.
AHCI driver is not good or it s not laoded.

When installing XP on SATA ports in AHCI mode press F6 when indicated and load the AHCI driver from a native floppy disk.
Or prepare a XP unattended setup with the AHCI drivers as .txt already loaded. To prepare such disk use nLite or XP ISO Builder.

Otherwise use IDE Mode.
Don t know what are the BIOS settings that you are having though.

My thought would be that with that mb you have to use an ide drive for the os, on ribbon one, position one, toggled as a master.  I don't believe that that vintage board knows how to boot from a sata drive even in position 0.  Hense, your install can't see the sata drive you're installing to, and the win installer does not see it as a bootable drive.

The board has 2 SATA ports. They should work theoretically otherwise they wouldn t be there. :)
You can install an OS on the secondary HDD on a ribbon as well.

The board has an additional controller made by Silicon Image -> Silicon Image sil3112A controller

As you can see in the download section you can download RAID drivers for Floppy.

Put one of those on the floppy (extract the content to the root of the Floppy) and load those at F6 when booting XP CD.

If the Silicon Image BIOS (which is a part of the motherboard BIOS) is RAID only you will not be able to connect optical units just HDD-s.

You can download and install drivers from Silicon Image site as well.

I think you can even run Windows 7 32 bit on that board , if you have a DX 9 video card with 512 megs (AGP 7600GT for example)  and 2-3 Gigs of system RAM..

You have to use the Silicon Image driver ,it s a little lower on the download section ,you ve loaded the wrong one.

But i see there in the BIOS the Serial ATA function field set as RAID.Can you change the field to AHCI or IDE mode ?!

Here is a link to the Silicon Image drivers .

http://www.siliconimage.com/support/   Select Sil 3112

If that field in the BIOS can be changed to Base or Ide Mode you can use the BASE drivers

Hello,
In Serial ATA Function I have two options: ''RAID'' and ''BASE''.

I still believe that this mb will not support booting from sata because the southbridge does not support ahci.  As to booting from the scsi/raid card, that card chip was not well recognized by xp sp2 or the bios on a ga-m55plus-s3g.  If you go into control panel and find the card it will show you what chip is available for flashing.  I don't believe the 3112 is.  As to the raid vs base setting, I'd select raid to see if it will boot of the raid array disk0.

As to what the gigabyte and vendors sites say about supporting ahci, if the southbridge chip will not then the drivers do nothing.

@ timmib
This is done by BIOS ,has nothing to do with the chipset used.
If the BIOS allows you to select for booting the Sil chip then it will boot.

I have used a Sil 3114 based PCI card with a MSI KT333 board  and i could install XP on the SATA HDD connected and boot from it.
It should work ,that is my opinion.

@ ionuth13
Select BASE ,download the BASE driver for XP from Silicon Image and try installing again. There may be more drivers available ,but after you succeed installing XP you can swap them around and find the best of them.
The BASE mode allows you do use optical drives.

If you don t use the PATA controller you can turn it off.

Same Error ...

I  downloaded Base driver from here: http://www.siliconimage.com/support/ ''* SiI3x12 32-bit Windows BASE Driver   6/25/2007   1.3.68.2   130 kb''
In Serial ATA Function I selected option: ''BASE''. .... Same Error ...
In GigaRaid Function I have two option: ''Raid'' and ''ATA'', I selected ATA .... Same Error ...

I noticed someting on my screen: ''Sil 3512A SATALink Bios Version 4.3.33 Copyright (c) 1997-2003 Silicon Image. Inc.'' - maybe I have to download Sil3512 PCI to 2 Port SATA150!!??

Yes.

Test all drivers available  in RAID and BASE mode.
If none of them work either get a PCI card with SATA ports either change hardware.

Take a look on the Silicon Chips chip on the board and see what name has exactly.Maybe there are other websites where you can find an older driver maybe better suited.

If you have a IDE HDD you can install Windows XP , then install the drivers for that SATA controller and see which one works.

I hope you are using a Windows XP SP3 disk.If not make one with nLite or XP ISO Builder.

hmm....
Same Error ........
I don't understand .... Clearly the motherboard sees my HDD because ''Setup is copying files 51%'' - the files are copied on the HDD...(when I put the HDD on other computer I can see the files .. ''Windows'' etc.) ..

What PCI card with SATA do you recommend that works perfectly with my mbo. and my HDD? Quality/Good Price ...

P.S I don't want another ERROR!
