GA-EP35C-DS3R 16gb ddr3
« on: December 19, 2011, 02:21:16 am »
Hello everyone.

I'm planning to upgrade my memory and I was wondering if it would be feasible to install 16gb ddr3. Has anyne tried it? Any recommendation in terms of which memory should I go for?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Al Dee,  ;)

Welcome to the forum,

I appreciate if you give us more infos about your configuration system.
(PSU, Graphics Cards, CPU, HeatSinkFan... etc...)
Please give us a official brand's web link and exact model of your hardware.

Do not forgot a version and type of Windows... (by exemple : Windows 64bit x64 Professionnal)

Otherwise, check the QVL Quick Vendor List about  compatible memory with your motherboard.
EDIT02 :  http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/motherboard_memory_ga-ep35c-ds3r_2.1.pdf

Or in the official web site of memory's Brands.... before make your choice.

EDIT01:
I check your motherboard here...
 http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2740#sp

The maximum of Ram is 8Gb.
If you want more 8-16Gb, I suggest you tried it in the Shop.

It is more safe to do so front of the seller at the counter.

Who knows, maybe it will work.
With timing above .. Instead of 4-4-4-12 try 5-5-5-18 for example.
it helps to ensure that the ram is recognized by the motherboard.

This is just an example. It does not apply to your situation.
EDIT03:  Use CPU-Z, SPD and memory tab. For find a timing.

EDIT04: If you have the money buying DDR3 1600 or 1333.
But I am not sure if the DDR3 is necessary... unless you want to use it on another motherboard in need of DDR3.

No need to purchase faster.
It does not appear in practice.
And you  have a possibility to overclocked a RAM. With a modification in timings. So... reduce to less than 5.5.5.18 by exemple.
Be care... this is just a exemple. Find a timing with CPU-Z.

Hi Gloup_Gloup, thank you for the quick response.

My model is GA-EP35C-DS3R  http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2740#sp

It says 4gb as max for ddr3 and 8gb for ddr2, but as someone mentioned here he succeeded installing 8gb.

I guess I'll get 8gb, 16gb might be too much.

Sometimes the larger module sizes will work perfectly well in some older boards and the size limitation is purely due to the fact that these larger size sticks weren't available when the motherboard was manufactured. Often though it is just a case of trial and error and there is no easy way to tell if it will work or not. ;)

Please post back if you do try it and your results for others in future who might want to do the same.

Hi Dark Mantis,  ;)

I already had the idea to put more RAM on a laptop.
Was limited to 2Gb, but I upgraded to 4Gb.
Like what should be tried. I did the store of course.

That's it. Sometimes it works perfectly and others it just doesn't show up at all. It is one of those scenarios where the outcome is a gamble. ;)

Hi

I have the same (GA-EP35C-DS3R) MOBO recently I bought RAM ( http://www.pieces-pc.fr/product.php?id=RC-CMV8GX3M2A1333 , its in french but Ull get all the spec ) after installation of that RAM pc won't boot, it will start for few sec then restart, then again start and reboot, i suppose in this place its an BIOS restart to default settings, and again just few sec and reboot...it won't even show loading bios or whatever, screen is black with no signal.
Ive tried to boot it with 8GB (2 sticks) and 4GB on just 1stick and the same situation...
what might be wrong?

Right now im running on:

GA-EP35C-DS3R   Intel E8500
GEILDDR2 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400 1.80V Dual channel
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT
