GA-970A-DS3 rev 1.1 with FX-6350

GA-970A-DS3 rev 1.1 with FX-6350
« on: May 20, 2013, 08:18:23 pm »
I updated my bios to the Beta F7a and fitted an FX-6350 processor. All seemed well for a couple of days then I got freezing upon boot. Thought it might be my graphics card (Gigabyte 7970). That worked in another system. Tried different graphics card anyway but still got lockup.
Put old processor back in with old graphics. Everything appeared OK. Put 7970 back. Upon boot the BIOS restored to original. System seems to work OK.
So.... is it the F7a BIOS thats no good, or is it the processor?
Any suggestions welcomed.
Trouble is I have £120 quids worth of processor just sitting on my desk.

It might be the BIOS.Try older version.

But prior to this ,disable turbo boost and make sure the power supply is the proper one.
Having in mind the config i would say you need a Corsair 600CX or similar.
Just get something that delivers same amount of Amperage on the 12V rails.

I hope you know that the DS 3 is the low end of the series so if you intend overclocking DO NOT DO IT. :)

There is no earlier Bios, I had to use latest Beta to support processor.

I do see that Gigabyte are releasing a GS-970A-DS3P. I suspect that is because the standard DS3 wont take the latest processors even though Support List says it should.

Power Supply is Hiper 580w Modular. Should be good enough?

I ve had Hiper PSU-s , they are not great.
Overrated by at least 50W ,poor soldering ,cheap capacitors that go out after 2 year or so ,bad rail design and so on.

I ve had some years ago a Hiper 400 then after one year it died ,got a new replacement and didn t work even new from day one.Dismantled it ,repaired it ,had a soldering short ,then after 2 years i ve replaced one capacitor. It works but i wouldn t call them reliable and i wouldn t use them with high end parts. The 12V rail is always under the minimum allowed :)

You should swap for something else and see what happens.
Barrow a 600W PSU from a friend (Corsair, Chieftec, Sirtec ,Seasonic and so on) and see if the issue continues.
