GA-Z87X-UD3H (Haswell) Cannot install Win8 under AHCI mode.

GA-Z87X-UD3H (Haswell) Cannot install Win8 under AHCI mode.

Hi, I have been cracking my head for the past 2 days since upgrading to Haswell with the GA-Z87X-UD3H mobo. I am unable to install Win 8 64bit. This is despite installing the provided AHCI drivers before installation. During first boot, it will fail to startup. Any further attempts to restart my comp will result in error startup messages. When I install Win8 in IDE mode it works fine. What bios settings should I use when installing Win 8 64?

The only thing here I can say after the computer reboots for the first time.

Go into the bios and make sure it is booting up on that drive or windows boot.

The other drive might be name the UEFI drive too.

Yeah. Midway through startup (as it's loading windows on my SSD) it just crashes. I have disconnected all other drives from my system. Any other suggestions?

When you install windows does it ask for that driver or are you just installing it? Plus what controller are you installing it on Intel or Marvell.

Using Intel controller. It doesn't prompt me for driver install.

This might sound stupid but try another DVD/CD drive.

I was having a problem loading Win 8 on a computer and it was the drive.

DVD drives are the biggest pieces junk on the market today.

Plugged the drive into one of my Marvell ports and it is now working fine. Seems only to be unstable when I plug my SSD into the Intel SATA ports. Strange that my regular HDDs work fine on the Intel ports. Could it just be a drive incompatibility issue? Could I have a faulty mobo chipset? I'm using a 120GB Patriot Inferno SSD (Sandforce controller).

More likely to do with your SSD I'm afraid.  I have a Crucial C300 in SATA0, Samsung 840 in SATA1 & a Seagate Barracuda in SATA2 working fine.

Yeah, I think so too. Will be buying a new Samsung 840 in a couple of days. Will leave an update here.

Once you have installed windows on the marvell you can which it to the intel controller.

I install mine on the marvell with AHCI and didn't think about it when I was doing it.

I just took the cable and move it to the intel and when it booted to windows it loaded the driver.

Plus if you do use another SSD check to see if they have a firmware update for your Patriot.

I had two Crucial 64gbs set in raid. The drives started to disappear out of the system.

They had a firmware update to fix it and it took them about 6 months too.

Tried updating my SSD firmware but the system can't detect the drive for a flash update. Apparently it's only supported under WinXP, Vista, and 7 :(

Updated firmware of my SSD successfully but Intel SATA controller still fails to read it at times. Still getting startup errors. Getting Samsung 840 SSD tomorrow. Really frustrating.

Just an update. Intel SATA controller AHCI works fine with my new Samsung 840 SSD.
