Issue with USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Not using Sleep Mode)
« on: June 11, 2013, 11:17:42 am »
I also posted this over at the Corsair Support forum, but after 5 days they still havn't replied.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First of all, i know Haswell has a USB 3.0 bug, but this was only suppost to happen when coming OUT of the Sleep Mode. Since i'm not using Sleep Mode i don't know what's going on.
Devices used:
Flash Voyager USB 3.0 64GB
Flash Voyager USB 2.0 16GB
WD Elements USB 3.0 HDD 1TB
Gigabyte Z87X-OC (Bios F4)
Front Panel USB 2.0 and 3.0
Back Panel USB 2.0 and 3.0
What's happening:
When i plug in my Flash Voyager USB 3.0 in one of my USB 3.0 ports and start transfering files to it after about 10-15 seconds the Flash Drive disappears from the list. Windows pops up a message that the location is no longer available. The drive still shows up Device Manager but there arn't any errors. When i use the same Flash Voyager USB 3.0 in a USB 2.0 port and do the same, it's working as it should.
Using the Flash Voyager USB 2.0 in one of the USB 3.0 ports and transfer files works just fine, same for the WD Elements USB 3.0 HDD.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Something i tested today was use the USB 3.0 Flash Drive in a USB 3.0 port and transfer FROM the Flash Drive to anywhere else, this doesn't seem to result in the Flash Drive disappearing.

I still don't know why it disappears when transfering to it. It's a HUGE issue but i still want to figure it out.

I presume that your Flash Voyager USB 3 works fine with USB 2.0? yes or no?

I presume you have tried all USB port (USB2 and USB3) one by one?

Intel has stated that microsoft was able to fix it with a update to windows. .

Have you find this update ?  Where is he, web link on microsoft?

Also USB 3.0 issues should be gone with Windows 8 and Seven and or if you use the USB 3.0 ports that are on hubs.
Did you use the USB3 port as a hub?

Extract:
The company (Intel) indicates the issues will not impact the release of the Haswell processor series, but it is of the intention of resolving this problem in a future processor stepping.

Do you feel that this heater can be installed on the cpu without touching the graphics card?

For example, on the UD5, there is more space between the port pci-ex 16 and cpu.

you won't ruin your bios chip by updating to the latest one from tweaktown forum. and don't expect change log for each bios there
in case of any problem you always have backup bios - that's very good function.

try to connect this pendrive to different usb 3.0 ports

There are hotfixes from MS to improve USB 3.0 compatibility (in case you have Win 8):

Ye, i know about those. But i'm using Windows 7.

Sad to see MS is already dropping Windows 7 support. Just because they want Gamers to go touchscreen >_>

I'm using the Front Panel header next to the 24-Pin.

I would try one of the Back Panel USBs but i'm not interested in having to go behind my PC all the time to use it.

Seeing my USB 3.0 HDD works fine aswell as the UBS 2.0 Flash Drive i think it's just the USB 3.0 Flash Drive not working properly.

And no, corsair hasn't answered. Great support they offer :)

Ill try the new Bios later on.

When i flashed to F4 and rebooted it said the main bios was corrupted and had to be restored. Now it's all working fine but it scared me.

Used @BIOS and downloaded the Bios File to my Desktop.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But as i said, i really doubt it has to do with the board. It's the flash drive being a lame ass most likely.
Went to F5q with @BIOS again, went fine this time.
It seems the issue is gone now. I have transfered files 10 times now and it doesn't disappear anymore.
I also enabled this Storage Accelerator in the Bios, dunno if that also helped. Can't remember if i tried that before.
Atleast it's working now :)
