GA-890FXA-UD5 + Kingston HyperX 2x8GB 10-10-10 timings fail

Timings for DDR3 1600 are 10-10-10.  When trying to set the timings manually, the motherboard just lets out a series of long beeps, then restarts with a default memory speed of 1333.  The only way I can get the memory to run @ 1600 is to set the memory clock to 8.0x, then timings via auto SPD to 11-11-11.

There are a slew of other manual settings that I am not touching - is there more to this 10-10-10 setting that needs to be done to get the memory to run at these timings?

I have just read the "RAM running at 1333" thread.  Is this what I am up against?  Of the three choices, what is best:
1.) Run at 1333Mhz with 9-9-9 timings
2.) Run at 1600Mhz with manually configured 10-10-10 timings
3.) Run at 1600Mhz with auto(SPD) configured 11-11-11 timings

KHX16C10B1R/8 is not a 2 x 8GB kit. It is a single 8GB DIMM. Compatibility applies to a single stick. If you choose to combine two DIMMs, then you are betting they will be compatible, because there is no guarantee using two of them will be compatible.

I suggest you try exchanging them for a 2 x 8GB kit.

If I understand you correctly, you are implying that purchasing two of the same product with the same specifications will not run in dual channel mode?  What is the difference in purchasing two of these, vs. two of these in combined packaging?  Some type of in-house testing?

The difference is that a set is tested for compatibility with each other while single packs can be of different production lines hence possibly problematic.

Use the ram's XMP profile and it just should work while manual setting requires to up the ram voltage switching to 1600

Check the voltage for the memory, for 1600 they need 1.6v.

I say youre going against the 1333
