Motherboard Recommendations?

Motherboard Recommendations?
« on: June 15, 2013, 09:39:36 pm »
I have had many issues with my current motherboard such as some games not being compatible and issues with the PC randomly powering off and many other reasons but long story short I need a new motherboard and I'm fairly bad a selecting these types of components so I was hoping someone could suggest a good motherboard for a gaming based system.

These are my current specs; (feel free to ask for more specs if needed)

CPU: AMD Fx-8150.
Motherboard; GA-990XA-UD3 (Rev1.x)
RAM; 8GB DDR3 (4GB x 2)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 640

If you make a suggestion I'd appreciate it if you would give some justification but it's not necessary.

Why the FX 8150 and not a FX 8320
The motherboard could be ok ,make sure it s not v1.0 though :).
For video card you could get the AMD equivalent  a 7790 (if i am not mistaking -check tech power up video card reviews site for reference)  it would be cheaper.
I was an Nvidia user myself until my 8800GT died (needed oven cooking also) and since then i have had many AMD video cards ,they are on par performance wise  and better manufactured.

Then you need a power supply , a ~550W- 600W one ,something like Corsair CX 600 or similar quality wise. This must have been your issues ,a bad power supply.

The RAM is enough for a x64 OS and more may not be needed.

Thanks for the reply, but maybe I wasn't clear enough. I'm looking for a NEW MOTHERBOARD everything else is staying the same ^^. Any recommendations? the Motherboard in the specs is the one I'm having problems with at the moment.

That board is ok for that CPU ,that motherboard should work
Nevertheless the power supply should be a good one for that rig and having in mind you have not mentioned it it must be some generic one or old.

You should research and find out what temperatures does the CPU have ,when you are stress testing it with heavy applications ,just to rule out a bad CPU also (fabrication issues with the heat-spreader, the metal on the cip).

What you have can be caused by a protection(thermal or over current) kicking in ,either in the PSU ,either on the motherboard
In the power supply due to a limited "juice" ,due to bad capacitors or due to overheating.
On the motherboard due to some thermal sensor reading

If it s totally random then it  leads to a bad PSU in my view

After you get the system rock solid just make sure you are using the latest BIOS.
