GA-G41M-combo giving POST error for 2x4GB DDR3 1333 RAM upgrade

Hi,

I was using the GA-G41M-combo motherboard (MB) with E7400 CPU and 2x1GB Kingston DDR2 667 RAM without any problem.

But when tried upgrading with 2x4GB DDR3 1333 (ADATA AD3U1333W4G9-B) RAM, it did not boot giving POST error beep tone with auto restarts and nothing on monitor. Tried installing single module & also clearing CMOS and still the same result.

Is there any special procedure to follow to get MB to auto configure the RAMs to work at 1066 or are my RAM modules incompatible to get the job done?

When put back the old RAMs again work fine. But after spending for the 8GB RAM unable to get the upgrade done.

Thanks!

You are the 2nd person to have the same problem. You have to get 1066 memory for it to work. At 1333 you have to OC the memory.

It doesn't auto do it for you. It will have to be set with the DDR3 1066 memory then you can put in the 1333 memory.

Plus that doesn't say that the memory will even work.

Thank you for the quick reply.

But I bought the RAM based on the memory support list (http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-g41m-combo.pdf) suggesting can use 1333 ram downgraded to 1066. But that list doesn't have any 4GB modules listed.

As the OC to 1333 list have some 4GB modules with similar specs listed, could you please let me know how can I set the BIOS OC settings as after insert the 1333 RAMs unable to boot and can't get anything on screen.

I haven't done any overclocking before and I'm new to that subject. So please bear with me if I seem to ask obvious stuff.

Also forgot to mention MB Rev 2.0 BIOS version FB.

Also the forum post "http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=8079" suggests that it is possible to use 2x4GB 1333 DDR3 modules with 1066 FSB processors with this MB. That's the reason why I asked this question to determine whether my problem is due to RAM incompatibility or due to not properly configuring the BIOS settings.

Thanks!

Got the RAM changed to same brand supported model (2x4GB DDR3 1333). Runs fine auto configured at 1066 (did not have to adjust anything on BIOS).

Reports 4100+MB/s dual channel speed. Way better than my previous 2x1GB DDR2 667 at 3500+MB/s.

Therefore dmdilks's reply above is totally misleading.

Hope the info will be useful for anyone searching later.

Thanks!

Therefore dmdilks's reply above is totally misleading.

1. You are running the memory at 1066 like I said: You have to get 1066 memory for it to work.

2. The only way I said you can get the memory to run at 1333 like I said: At 1333 you have to OC the memory.

3. You had to change bands to another band to get it to work like I said: Plus that doesn't say that the memory will even work

4. Why even buy memory at 1333 when you can only run it at 1066. So where is it that I'm misleading.

5. The board only supports DDR3-1066/800 MHz memory modules & DDR3 1333(O.C.)

Yes you got the 1333 memory to run at 1066. But the thing is you are not getting the full performance out of the memory.

Plus I'm glad you got it to run too.

I have the same problem with the same motherboard. I have a pair of kingston Hyper X ram(2x4gb) at 1600. In the ram manual it is said that that ram can go down to working at 1066 . It should automatically take work at that speed but still the pc wont start . Is there a reason for that ? And should i manually change anything on bios?

Every time I have upgraded ram it has to be at the max the motherboard supports as in speed. Had a board that took 1066 and figured id get 1600 and let it down clock it. NOPE doesn't work that way. I had to get 1066 ram.

Thank you for your quick respond :)
When the computer starts , rams should automatically start from their lowest speed(1066 for this kingston ram) up to their highest (1600 for this ram) and when they find the best speed for compatibility with motherboard-Cpu , then it stops there. If i put 2x2gb-Corsair rams which are on 1600 speed too ,  motherboard would start just fine, after it downclocked them to 1066. i understand why its not right but kingston rams should work too, shouldn't  they? Is there anything i should change in order for the G-41 combo to have 8 gb ram??
Thank you !.

I always set my ram manually in bios.

i sorry this post is very old but i guess have the solution to this problem

I have the same motherboard GA-G41M-COMBO and also I had the same problem, i did buy two memory moduls ADATA AXDU1333GB2G9-3G.

Here's what happened i did install the two new modules of DDR3 ADATA 1333 and the motherboard just can not boot anything this just kept beeping without any possibility of go inside of BIOS, and then like there was not way to select some option like *Default Settings*, so I assumed than i should delete the BIOS settings through CLR_CMOS jumper and so I try (and even retire the battery) but it did not work and the mobo kept beeping after the clearing of settings, the which is something very strange as this motherboard should support DDR3.

But then happened something very strange here, you see how before i was using two modules of DDR2 both of 1GB and like this still work for my I do have the idea of do downgrade to another bios one older than the last than i do have flashed in the mobo and after of make this and only  so finally the motherboar was capable of can boot with the new memory DDR3.

To here that was my solution, but then i do assume something will be wrong with the last bios provided by gigabyte and to confirm this i just think i was be easy prove just i will reflash again the last bios with the new DDR3 Modules working and after this the Motherboard logically would not boot and so i make it, but I had a big surprise when this time with the bios than before cant get work now it do work nicely..

Someone understand where was the problem, but all this was my sulution hope to someone this info be useful... =)

Sorry for my poor inglish, cheersss!!!!!

I recently bought an old GA-G41MT-S2P and paired with 2x4GB DD3 KVR16N11/4 and had a no go. With some research I found that in order to have 8GB with G41 chipset, the best shot is Corsair ValueSelect CMV4GX3M1A1333C9

I hope it may helps someone.
