GA-970A-DS3 rev 3.0 vs. AMD FX-6350

GA-970A-DS3 rev 3.0 vs. AMD FX-6350
« on: July 14, 2013, 04:53:29 pm »
Hey   :)

I'm in the process of my first build, I have everything is here apart from the case.

After hours of searching Google I'm getting worried about my motherboard combo.
The board was purchased from scan.co.uk a month ago, it's a GA-970A-DS3 with rev 3.0 printed on the board.
Does anyone know if this board ships with the FD BIOS to run a FX 6350? I can't anywhere what version it comes shipped with although I'm assuming it's FB? Would the board boot a FX 6350 with BIOS FB to allow me to flash the BIOS to FD?

I have heard a little about Q Flash. Would that work with my CPU/Mobo to update by BIOS? Is there a guide anywhere? I have a USB stick available and a laptop to format the stick to fat and put the BIOS update on if needed. Also does Q Flash need the CPU installed to function, or just my GTX 660 for the DVI?

Kind of worried as you can tell, tempted to run everything of my desk to check as I can't afford a case for another two weeks.

you can build ur puter without a case and when it post you will see bios version. Yes it must have a cpu in order to boot.

Thanks, hope I get post with the CPU. Decided against building it without the case though, my PCI-E card (660 w/ twin frozr iii) has a chunky full metal cooler. I don't have anything to support the card with, don't want to bend the cards PCB or the mobos PCI-E slot.

Just a precaution since you have internet acess already on another computer you can create a bootable USB drive and have the newest bios on it so when you start your computer for the first time if it needs updating to see your CPU you can flash the bios then. I have done this on a gigabyte motherboard before i got it with bios ver. F2 and i needed F-4 so i had the usb ready and when i first started it i flashed the bios and it worked fine.

Got the BIOS ready on USB now, good to hear flashing worked for you from a lower version than you needed.

Just put the new bios file on the usb stick and load Qflash by hitting the END key while booting up - flash the new bios from stick, done!

Thanks. If anyone's worried about the same issue, updating the BIOS from an older incompatible version worked great for me.
