GA990-FXA-UD3 freezes on startup

GA990-FXA-UD3 freezes on startup
« on: August 01, 2013, 04:34:30 pm »
hello everyone, I bought this motherboard on June 18th from tiger direct, a couple of weeks after my pc started to freeze randomly, I looked up forums and stuff, and I tried pretty much everything, new win7 setup, new drivers, changed cmos battery and lastly updating the bios with @bios.

the bios update was successful in stopping the freezes, for about a week then the pc would freeze on mother board picture on start up and on trying to enter bios.
also, after I updated the bios it changed the mother board start up picture on start up from UFEI Dual Bios to Gigabyte Ultra Durable..but now sometimes it shows the pre bios update mother board screen for 2 seconds before freezing.

oh and I know its the motherboard cause I got my brother's old pc and gutted it and put my parts in it and it works perfectly fine.

I tried RMA the mother board but it says out of warranty [which is 3 years] and I only got it for 5 weeks, I sent Gigabyte customer support an email with scanned receipts, shipping tags and mother board serial number and explained my problem, and for almost 10 days no one replied yet

any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated fellas.

my specs:
AMD 8350FX
16 GB Crosair Vengeance Ram
XFX AMD Radeon 7970 GHz Edition
80 Intell S3 SSD
Asus Xonar DX sound card

I havent OCed anything, my GPU is factory OCed.

What is the part number of the 16 GB Crosair Vengeance Ram?
What is the model name of the power supply?
1) GA-Z97X-Gaming 7, G3258,
2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

5-31-2011 is when they first came out with rev. 1.0 so take that into account there is no way that board could be out of warranty unless tiger direct sold you a refurbished board in which case it only has a 90 day warranty. I would contact tiger direct and tell the that the manufacture said that the board they sold you 5 weeks ago is out of warranty.
If they are any kind of good company they will take care of it. If they dont i would advise not to shop there anymore.

I could not find when each revision of the GA-990FXA-UD3 came out but you can get a rough idea by looking at the dates for the first BIOS for each revision:
Boards with DualBIOS with Hybrid EFI
Rev. 1.0 2011/05/06
Rev. 1.1 2011/05/06
Rev. 1.2 2011/09/16
Boards with UFEI Dual Bios
Rev. 3.0 2012/10/23
Rev. 4.0 2013/06/18

Fadi_Khalaf said he got the board from TigerDirect on June 18th and that it had a UFEI Dual Bios so his board is at least a rev 3.0. Just speculation, but TigerDirect may have had a special then to move the old rev 3.0 boards because the rev 4.0 boards were coming out.

Fadi_Khalaf needs to check what revision board he has. The rev number is in the corner behind the PCIe slots. If his board has the UFEI Dual Bios then board has to be less than a year old.

I looked at the information for the board at US TigerDirect. I do not know where Fadi_Khalaf lives but the information there said the board had a 1 year warranty. Maybe someone could explain why this is since the GIGA-BYTE US site says the board has a 3 year warranty. Is it possible that TigerDirect is importing things from a non-US distributor? This might explain the shorter warranty period. I hope TigerDirect is not selling refurbished items without disclosing this. So many questions. If GIGA-BYTE responds saying that the board is in warranty then no problem. If they again reject the board as being out of warranty then TigerDirect has some explaining to do.

BTW, I got a rev 1.0 board on 2011/07/11. As stated on the box it came with a 3 year warranty.

Warranty Effective On Date of Manufacture

GIGABYTE determines warranty based on the manufacture date. The manufacture date can be verified by the serial number found on the product. The first four digits after "SN" determine the year and week of manufacturing date. For example:

"4719331822101 SN082540084966" represents the 25th week of 2008

Motherboards

o All motherboards (besides Micro ITX) carry a 3 year warranty.
Micro ITX motherboards carry only 15 months limited warranty.

GIGABYTE USA will only provide warranty service to GIGABYTE products purchased within North America.

Now you know how to find the date of manufacture, Also yours was purchased in the USA so the 3 year would apply unless TigerDirect sent you a refurbished one. Check your serial number and post back the date i am curious as to what it is now.
