GA-880GM-USB3 BOOTMGR missing
« on: September 19, 2013, 08:50:51 pm »
Hi.

I have the motherboard in the title and recently got a new SSHDD. Every time i shut down and leave the computer for sometime, when i come back i get missing bootmgr message. I am using this http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-internal/solidstate/upto120gb/ssdsc2ct180a4k5.html intel 180 GB SSD. The drive was not initially set to AHCI and i did the windows 7 regestry fix after install. If i actually turn the power off to the pc and back on the pc boots fine.

When i start the pc up after leaving it for a while, i get the AHCI boot manager screen as normal but the first drive intel SSD throws an error.

Ive read a few times about setting bios to optimal before building pc, which i did not do.

Also i have flashed the boios to FE version.

Any help would be appreciated.

So what do you do to recover ?!
Does the IDE setting kicks back in instead of AHCI ?!
If yes ,then the problem might be the mobo battery ,replace it.

To recover i have to turn the mains power off to the pc.
No it does not go back to IDE it stays in AHCI but the sshdd reports an error on boot and i get the missing bootmgr message. Then as mentioned i cycle mains and it will boot.

I was thinking it could be the cmos battery too. Ill buy a new one and see.

Thank you for your response.

Although if it was the cmos battery, everything would go back to default right? Which it does not.

Touch wood i think i have solved the problem by changing Erp Support to <1W in S5 Shutdown state.

It seemed to me that it was an issue with the powered down state of the PC as the fault cleared when i cyled the power.

I still have some reservations about the SSD after reading about some major problems with the Intel SSD's on the intel forums.

I guess time will tell.

To put this to bed finaly i have taken the Intel SSD back to the shop and exchanged it for a Samsung Evo pro 120GB drive which i have had no problems with at all. Therefore my problems were due to the Intel drive. Thanks for the help.

Good to know.
Outdated firmware most probable.
Enjoy!
