Memory wont run at 1600

Hello All, I have a Gigabyte Z87mx-D3H mobo with Corsair Vengeance 8gb 1600mhz (2x4 dimms CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B).  I have the latest bios and when I enable XMP Profile 1 (only option) the memory is put at 1600 which is the correct speed.  The computer will load fine and game etc...  The only issue I have is that from a cold boot as the computer is starting I notice the bios will flash twice like it is looping and then sometimes the computer will start and other times it will stay on a black screen.  If I remove XMP in the bios and go back to 1333 for the timings the computer loads fine everytime from a cold boot.  Nothing is overclocked in the bios and I ran Memtest overnight with no errors.  I also increase memory voltage in increments from 1.5 - 1.6 with same issue.  Any ideas why I cant get the memory to the default 1600 timings?

Unfortunately, this is the reason I stopped buying GB motherboards for a long time.

I have only recently returned and it still happens, although not as much as it used to.

When I use the XMP profile, I will get forced into the BIOS with 'an error has occurred' and forced defaults.

If I disable the XMP profile, everything is fine.

This was a constant problem for me on several Gigabyte X58 boards that I owned previously.

I bought my current GA-X79S-UP5 to replace a defective board from another manufacturer and quite by chance, I ended up with the GB as it was the only one I could get overnighted (of the brands that I will buy).

So far I have been pretty happy with it but I see that this memory problem persists from a cold boot and it is really irritating when it happens.

I run nothing but Gigabyte boards and Intel you just set the speed and nothing else. On a Amd board there is a little more you have to do.

I don't use the XMP profile on either board too. You don't really need it.

So update on my issue...I tested new ram (same as above) and same issue.  I reflashed the latest bios (F5),  I also tested by removing the XMP and just increasing the timings from 1333 to 1600 and keeping the memory voltage in between 1.5-1.6v to test.  The mobo says it supports the 1600mhz ram on the product page but I can not get it to run at the rated speed.  Is there something I am missing?

Have you tried to clear the cmos and pull the battery. Then set the bios to default and than try and set just the speed 1600.

I have the same problem with my GA-H77-DS3H board, anytime I try to boot using an XMP profile the board won't boot, restarts a few times on it's own then finally stays running. The problem is compounded by the video mode used by bios won't sync with my monitor so I have to pillage the wifes old 14in Dell LCD monitor to see the bios screens. It's strange that easytune 6 will let me boost the memory speed to 1600 and the board stays stable, but it just won't boot using the XMP profile. Am using 2 PNY XLR8 sticks @ 8gb (16Gb total), BIOS F7, i5-3550 E1. The build is 3 days old so I dunno if I have a faulty component or just setting it up wrong.

<update>I contacted PNY, they feel it's a BIOS problem with the board. A shame neither PNY or Gigabyte has an up-to-date memory compatability list so I can see if my memory is compatable or not, but if it's not compatable it shouldn't run in 1333 mode, right ? So I wait for Gigabytes replay to my support request....

Just an update to my situation- I spoke with Gigabyte and they asked me to update to the latest BIOS and to NOT use the XMP profile option, but instead manually increase the memory multiplier in BIOS (in my case from 13 to 16). This seems to have fixed the problems with booting and eliminated the need to run easytune in windows to get the memory speed upto 1600. I took the extra step of bumping the BCLK value to 100.02 instead of leaving it on 'auto' per numerous posts I found advising this. I don't know if BIOS is still using the XMP values of the memory modules or not, but as the PNY XLR8 modules (MD8192SD3-1600-X9) timing values and voltages are the same for 1600 and 1333 I'm gonna count myself lucky I don't have to mess with the timing settings.

The monitor problem turned out to be my elo touchscreen monitor isn't digital and the uefi BIOS wasn't setup for a legacy only, so my monitor didn't see a valid signal until windows loaded, forcing the analog video output.

I hope this helps someone out. GL

Like I said before that on a Intel board you only have set the speed of the memory and nothing else.
