Ga-880gma-ud2h - daily freezes - Beta Bios F6 culprit?
« on: November 07, 2013, 03:57:18 pm »

Dear Forum,

I updated my mobo with Beta Bios F6 a few months ago (see thread).
I had read in another forum that with this Bios, the problem of detecting HDD’s above 2TB would be solved.
So I did it and it worked, however, I’m not sure if Bios F5 would have done the same, as I’ve read somewhere that the F6f Beta bios, actually implements the ability to AM3+.

Anyway, since a few weeks I’m having daily freezes on my computer, no bsods, just freezes, can’t use mouse nor keyboard, only re-booting helps.
The error can’t be mouse nor keyboard, as I’ve tested them on another pc and they work fine.
-   Could be my 1090T, but I have no real idea how to test it.
-   Thought about my gpu (nvidia 560ti), since sometimes I can read an error message within windows related to my gpu, but I can’t really tell now which message it was.  I have no artifacts or anything. I will test the board with the onboard graphics to see if the problem persists.
-   Thought about my psu, which is now 2 ½ years old, a Seasonic golden Series, but that would astonish me
-   Could be the memory….still need to do a Memtest
-   I opened a thread on the OCZForums for my Agility 3, since some people also seem to have freezes, nothing solved yet
-   Last but not least…it could be the Motherboard itself (Northbridge getting hot?) or the Beta Bios I upgraded on it…

Whilst I have to check the scenarios mentioned above, my quick question to you is the following…
Is it possible to flashback to official Bios F5 through the option in Bios? Can you downgrade Bios withouth problem, just like you would upgrade it - same method ?
If so,  should I only leave the OS drive connected (SSD) to the pc and leave all the rest of HDD’s & optical drive disconnected ?

Thank you in advance for your help,
Cheers,
Ken

Thanx for replying autotech,
Ok, so no issue on the downgrading bios and leaving stuff connected - will try it.
Regarding the SSD, I did a firmware update yes, OCZ Agility 3 from 2.06 to 2.25.
They asked me (on OCZforums) to post a screenie on the smartattribues, which I did (see attached).

They said it looked ok, but I should check attribute 174 (Unexpected Power Loss), to see if it increases. On the screenie it counts 136, now it increased to 138...
So, I don't know, if it's an "Unexpected Power Loss"...what could it be?  PSU, faulty connection, new cables needed?
I really hope it's not the PSU...

Cheers,
Ken

From what i can see ken you are ok there i have a different ssd and it is less than 6 months old so i use a different program but in mine that spot is blue which means info only not important.
The 5 green lights i havbe are ok on yours also so i probably wouldnt chase that to hard. How old is your ssd and can you thru your ocz program manually send a trim command to it?  Also have you overprovisioned it and does it give that option in your ocz program?
