F2A88XN-WIFI POST Boot Time
« on: November 23, 2013, 02:41:06 pm »
How long POST Time should take? (the time from pressing the ON button on the computer to when Windows starts loading)
In my case it's ~11 seconds, and the time form pressing the ON button to the appearance of UEFI Full Screen Logo is around 8 seconds...

Shouldn't it be faster?

But your MB uses classic bios, mine is based on UEFI which should boot much faster : /

11 secs does seem like a long time.  my desktop appears after around 13-15 sec.

Do you have RAID enabled or have any SATA/IDE addon cards?  they will slow down boot time whilst initialising.

Also, check BIOS settings - something may be causing a delay

Mine is 22 sec with 1 500 gig and a 1 tera byte drive both sata 2 with my 240 gig ssd so to me 11 seconds is is 1/2 of my time still compared to normal sata 3 drives that is really good.

hard drives are irrelevant as he is questioning his POST time - the time from pressing the power button to windows starting to load

I hate to disagree as before windows loads the bios does and it loads all spare hard drives. I can hook up a 4T sata 3 platter and add 45 seconds to my boot time as it loads that hard drive with everything else even if it is info only hard drive. I have done it numerious times with hard drives ranging from 1T and a 2T and a 4t and with each addition it takes longer to boot.

before windows loads the bios does and it loads all spare hard drives.

BIOS scans all SATA/IDE channels for devices which takes milliseconds.  If adding one drive adds 45 secs to boot time then there's something wrong somewhere.  My PC has an SSD, 2x mechanical drives and 2x ODD drives yet it takes less than 20 secs to fully load up the desktop

@mikeyb5753, could You please measure your POST time?

Things I've tried that didn't help to improve my POST time:

-another ram and PSU
-installing windows in UEFI mode (GPT partition) instead of Legacy mode (MBR partition)

It seems like CPU or MB issue...

I've had to RMA the board but as soon as it's back i'll time it and try to post a video on here if possible.

PSU won't make a difference.  CPU and RAM will make a slight difference.

Do you have any addon cards?  is the graphics onboard or seperate card?

Have you tried resetting BIOs to default values?

I'm using Win7, maybe my 11s POST time is as long as it should be?

It would be useful if someone else share his POST Time with windows 7 and Gigabyte A88X based mobo.

i've got my board back and boot time is taking a little longer as i've had to replace the 8gb RAM with 2gb for the time being.

it takes 28 sec from switching on to desktop appearing.  I don't know how long it takes to POST as by the time the monitor is on, the windows logo is already on so it must be just a couple of seconds.

The latest BIOS update for my board (and probably yours) has a fast boot feature which allows to bypass initialisation of USB and PS2 during boot which speeds things up a little.

I hope I am not asking for too much :P
