Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI (rev 1.0) + i7 4820K
« on: December 31, 2013, 12:13:16 pm »
Hello guys!

I've bought a Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI board, but no processor yet ... planning to get an Intel i7 4820K CPU soon.
The board was made in 2012 according to the S/N, and I'm not sure about what BIOS is presented on that mobo.
Is there any way to know what is the presented BIOS version, without turning it on?

My question is:
Is it possible to update it's bios with an "unsupported" cpu, if the motherboard has older BIOS version?
If the board has pre F4 BIOS?

To answer to all is NO. You need a CPU to check it out. If you are going to OC the CPU than get the 4820K.

If you are not going to OC than just get the 3820. There is really no difference between the two, other than the 4820k is easier to OC.

If you bought it from a store maybe you can bring it back have them check for you. I'm sorry but you are going to need a CPU.

Thanks the fast answer!  ;)

I was afraid of that...
... already asked the store if they could help me out with that, and they're not going to help me out...
I will stick to my original plan (4820K), just have to find someone to help :D

I wish you a happy new year! Cheers!
