Hi there,

The rev number, in your case Rev 3.0 indicates which version of the motherboard you have. The GA-990FXA-UD3 has been a popular motherboard and there are now 5 different revisions for it. Basically this means that since its release (Rev 1.0) Gigabyte have updated and modified the board slightly to keep it current with new technologies. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4397#ov

Not really sure by your question about updating but, if you are having no issues with your current setup then you shouldn't need to update the BIOS but, of course,  it is a good idea to keep system drivers updated.

However, if you are thinking of upgrading your CPU to one of the latest AMD beasts, then you will need to check if your current motherboard will support it. http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4397 If it doesn't then yes, you will need to upgrade the motherboard.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

The REV number shows how many times Gigabyte engineers tried to make it properly :)

Seriously speaking, it s the HW revision and can t be upgraded.
Nevertheless the BIOS can be updated it any are released.
Unfortunately Gigabyte AMD boards receive rarely BIOS updates.

If the board works as it is just let it be ,avoid playing with BIOS flashes..
