Ga-EP45T-UD3LR and 1600mhz memory?
« on: March 11, 2014, 10:36:34 pm »
I have a Ga-EP45T-UD3LR that had a 8400 in it and 2 PNY 4gb 1333mhz memory sticks that runs fine. I am now using an X5492 Xeon CPU at 3.4 (sticker mod) and it works fine with the PNY memory. I have never been able to get 1600mhz memory to post. I have tried several types and have bought the recommended Kingston brand, KZ1600C93DB1K2 1.65v with no luck. I cannot get it to post to enter bios with any 1600mhz memory installed. I can enter the bios with the 1333 memory installed, make changes, then shut down, install 1600 but no post again. I am running F7 bios. I could just stick with the PNY 1333 memory but I have 8 sticks of 4GB 1600mhz memory sitting here.
I should add I have tried voltage up 2.0 and MCH to 2.4 with no post. Just a series of rapid beeps and restart loop. I have tried down clocking the memory to 1066 with the same results. I should also state that the results are the same no matter the cpu used. I have tried a X6800 the E8400 and the X5492 Xeon with no change. All work fine with the PNY 1333 but none of the work with the 1600 no matter what settings I try and start the pc bios in. Just rapid beeps and restarts.

There are two things here first is that board doesn't support the x5492 & x6800. The 2nd thing is that the E8400 only supports 1333.

You where lucky to get those two CPU's to work. You can try to just run the 1600 at the default bios setting at 1333.  Plus you could try and update the bios and see what happens too.

I should have posted QX6800 but the X6800 is on the supported cpu list. The X5492 is basically a Q9770. Google sticker mod for the Xeons. You are right about though the memory should downclock but the board will not allow getting into the bios with the 1600 memory. no matter the cpu. It will just emit rapid beeps shut down restart rapid beeps repeat....
I guess I could try the beta bios but...

I have memory just like that will run in some boards but not others. Like I said try and update the bios F12e and see what happens.

Yes it is a beta bios but it saying Improve memory compatibility. It might than pickup that memory.

I do have a Ga-EP45T-USB3P. I forgot I had it. I just install 1600 g-skill memory and it is running at 1600. All I did was set it to the profile.

But did have a problem with loading windows on it. I would keep getting a error till I set the 1600 back to 1333.

OK I updated to the latest beta bios F12e (supposed to help memory compatibility) and tried a few more brands. Nothing will even post to bios, just a series of beeps, shut down, repeat loop. Tried various voltage settings etc.. The newer memory won't post even at 1333. I called Kingston after using the Genesis KHX1600C9D3K that Gigabyte stated was compatible. They said the older low density memory will work but several years ago Kingston started using high density chips in the same model number memory and Gigabyte never updated the bios. If you could find the older memory it would work but any warranty replacements will all be the newer stuff. So be careful buying newer memory! Any chance of a bios update or are these boards way too old?
I really hate to update as the board is plenty fast with the X5492.

The memory that I had used was the same memory. It is Kingston #KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX. The bios is F1 / 12/30/2009

I can get it to boot at 1600 but it will not run windows. I have try different settings but nothing works. It will run at 1333 with no problems.

There is a newer bios but it has nothing to do with the any memory compatibility. So I think that we are stuck at 1333 with these boards.

Ga-EP45T-USB3P - Support for DDR3 2200+/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

Ga-EP45T-UD3LR - Support for DDR3 2200+/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

How old is your memory? My newer memory of that model number will not give access to bios. Kingston says only the older memory works. The newer high density memory is not read correctly by the bios. They said it has nothing to do with bios setting, that the newer memory will not run at all at any speed until Gigabyte produces a new bios for it. I am certainly wouldn't bet the farm on this but I have tried 6 7 different modules and none will even get to the bios screen. All just rapid beeps and reset to rapid beeps. My old PNY 1333 memory work fine. Just hope it never needs to be replaced!

This is the memory I used: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104118

I have try three different brands and they all booted. I even tried 2200 memory and that booted.

But again I can't get it to pass by the windows logo screen. When I tried the G-Skill 2200 and set it to the speed it booted than crash.

I Had to clear the cmos and pull the battery to get it to boot again. Mine to runs great at 1333 memory too.

The other thing is when I set it to 2200 it only would show 2000 in the profile.
