GA-Z87X-UD4H Will Not Boot w/ DDR3_2 & DDR3_4 Populated

GA-Z87X-UD4H Will Not Boot w/ DDR3_2 & DDR3_4 Populated
« on: March 17, 2014, 08:07:01 pm »
Hoping for some advice on what to try next or what piece to replace next.

System had problems with DDR3_2&DDR3_4 populated from original install and would not pass LED code 15 using (4x4GB) 1.35v Samsung 1600Ghz RAM.  The system would loop in a constant reboot cycle.

I bought new RAM from the QVL list (2x4GB sticks Gskill TridentX 2400) and used those in DDR3_1 & DDR3_3 successfully for the last 9 months.

I ran into some out-of-virtual-memory issues and decided to purchase another set of the  Gskill TridentX 2400 (so a total of 4x4GB)

I installed them and I'm back to the problem of the system stuck in the reboot cycle.

I tried just one stick in each slot independently and it has the same problem if DDR3_2 or DDR3_4 are populated.

I pulled the CPU, checked it for damage or scratches.  I took a picture of the socket so I could zoom in and look for bent pins (old eyes) but found none.

For the last nine months I have been able to run the CPU at 4.5Ghz with no problems.  The two sticks of GSkill RAM have been using XMP profiles set at 2400Ghz.

System Specs
GA-Z87X-UD4H Bios F8
I5 4670k @ default (stock) settings for testing problems.
2 x4GB Gskill Trident X 2400Ghz Ram using XMP profile 1 (tried 2 also).
Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 850w power supply

CoolerMaster 120XL AIO cooler

ASUS GTX660 in SLI w/
Galaxy GTX660

Lots of fans in a CMII 690 case.
Kingston SSD & WD HDD

Windows 7 Pro

**updated to show Bios at F8**

Hi there,

you don't say which BIOS version you are running but you could try updating to the F9a that is available on TweakTown here: http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios.html and see if that helps.

If it doesn't, you could try raising the voltage a little on the RAM to see if that can get you past the POST hurdle.

If you lower the speed of the RAM to 1600MHz with all four slots populated can you get the PC to POST?

Have you tried manually setting the RAM Speed and Timings, rather than using the XMP Profile settings?
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I downloaded the F9a version of the bios and installed it.
I completed a boot cycle to make sure it took.
I then shut down, installed the memory, and same results with DDR3_2 & DDR3_4 populated

It begins the boot cycle, hits LED 15, then reboots (over and over again).

I took the modules out and rebooted.  Went into the bios, set the memory to 1600Mhz and the voltage to 1.65V (recommended voltage for the memory.)
I rebooted to make sure it took (checked CPUID).
I then shut down, installed the memory, and same results with DDR3_2 & DDR3_4 populated

Wish I had a definitive test to see which part is faulty; motherboard or CPU.

Dual Channel Memory Configurations is :

DDR3_1 & DDR3_2...grey slots
or
DDR3_3 & DDR3_4...black slots

not as you installed DDR3_1 & DDR3_3 / DDR3_2 & DDR3_4

Btw,
try with only 1 (one) stick every slots.

Edit:
Also upping the system agent and i/o voltages ......

Sorry, I know this is almost month old thread, but I have same issue.
I would like to know did you found solution...I'm gonna check sockets pins tomorrow since I think it is socket pin related???
Did you found out?
