I am building a new pc and need to find a decent heatsink for gaming.

Here is my part list. This is a $800.00 build.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor -C3 stepping.

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ - Retail

CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7

EVGA 01G-P3-1158-TR GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Western Digital Caviar Black WD7501AALS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive -Bare

LITE-ON 24X DVD Writer Black SATA Model iHAS424-98 LightScribe Support - Retail

Logitech 963292-0403 Dual Action Gamepad - Retail

Rosewill RC-401-EX 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express Gigabit Low Profile Network Card - Retail

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM

Also included ,but not sure if it will fit.

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus.Ram could be a concern. Why do all these motherboards have the ram so close to the  cpu mount? It seems they could make it easier for after market HS. I'm a first timer here, and want to get this right ;) I was going to go with the GIGABYTE GA-770TA-UD3.Great options, bad design. With a large video card it blocks one of the PCI Express x1 slots, and the other one is sitting on top of the North Bridge. Not good. This board only has 2 PCI Express x1 slots.

I love the price.Under $40 dollars,and good potential.
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus.

How long is a piece of string? The best cooler is the one that does the job that YOU want it to do!

If you are planning at sticking with stock speeds and settings then the original AMD heatsink is fine and there is really no need to replace it. However, if you are planning on really overclocking your rig then maybe, you might want to look at some of the higher end air coolers or even a water cooling solution as there wouldn't be too much gain from the Hyper 212 cooler.

If you could give some indication of what your intentions are regarding overclocking it would help with maybe offering a better solution. But, in the short term, the Hyper 212 should fit OK on your chosen mobo.

A little backround Info....

I will be using  this computer for gaming and downloading. My current pc is just used for downloading, and has been running 24/7 since 2006.Not bad for store bought(HP Slimeline). It has a 1.6 gig single core cpu.I Added more ram ,and went through a couple burners during that time.

The pc I want to build will be used for the same purpose 24/7,but I will also be playing games while downloading.I wanted to get a quad core because I will be doing some encoding, plus the fact their workhorses.

Overclocking with this chip

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor -C3 stepping.

I will definitely put a mild overclock on this chip.I will kick it up to 3.4 or 3.5.I really cant see going any higher for gaming at this time.I bought an Antec 900 a couple of years ago,and it's been collecting dust.Time to get out the compressed air,and fill it with parts. I did research to make sure all my parts would fit for this build.I hope all my wires in the case will reach the motherboard OK.I guess it's hard to say until I actually build this rig.

If I'm downloading and gaming at the same time, which will be the case, more often than not, I wanted a after market cooler. This cpu is also 125 watts,so that means more heat.Correct?

I never built a pc or overclocked, but I am definitely going to give it a shot  :)

For a few dollars more, have you considered the Scythe’s Mugen-2 Rev. B?

In reviews  this provides better overall cooling than the Hyper 212. However it is a BIG beasty.
If you are worried about fitting and the space between the CPU cooler and the RAM, the memory you are looking at getting doesn't have really big heatsinks so there shouldn't be a problem with this cooler.

Hope this helps

I love my Thermalright Ultra Extreme, Q6600 G0 @ 3.6ghz 1.40625v (in BIOS), after 8 hours prime stress testing the hottest core was 67oc (obviously ambients etc will effect it)
Its also a rather large cooler + does not come with a fan, that has to be purchased seperatly
There's no place like ::1

If you are only over clocking to 3.4, 3.5 the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus with two fans in a push pull configuration is a very, very good cooler, do not forget to buy a good thermal paste also.

I am overclocking at 3.7 and the the loudest component on my rig is the Caviar Black, yet my idle temperature is 29OC, load at 55OC, average 41OC.  I can run Prime 95 24/7.
