BSOD from Lan Optimizer (Z77X-D3H)

BSOD from Lan Optimizer (Z77X-D3H)
« on: June 25, 2014, 10:54:47 pm »
Hello all,
I have a Z77X-D3H with "Qualcomm Atheros AR8151" lan controller. Both my BIOS and LAN Driver are the latest (bios is not beta version).

Whenever I run Lan Optimizer (downloaded from Gigabytes website), I get a BSOD saying:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (AthrTS6_x64.sys).

The .sys file is located in the installation folder.
Any help is appreciated, as I would love to try out this program, thanks.

GIGABYTE LAN Optimizer is a simple GUI-based, software application that works in conjunction with the Realtek 8111E and above Network Interface Controller (NIC.)

Means it is for a Realtek based NIC.

LAN Optimizer (Realtek)
(Note) Support Intel 9/8/7/6 series and AMD FM2+/FM2/AM1 series motherboards with Realtek LAN chip.

There is a LAN optimizer for the Atheros NIC as well:

http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Utility/mb_utility_lan-optimizer-atheros-intel-7series.exe

And Juusuhako is using it since the driver that is causiing the BSOD, judging from its file name (AthrTS6_x64.sys), is clearly the Atheros version.

I can't help though, as I don't use the LAN optimizer...

you are right they do make it for Atheros also. Maybe a different version than the one you are running might work. Have you tried a fresh install of windows to solve any driver conflicts or have you already done a fresh install?

Actually it seems that Lan Optimizer (Atheros) for Win8/Win8.1 isnt even supported. If I go to Support & Downloads, pick Utility and then Win8/Win8.1, it only shows Lan Optimizer for Realtek. Atheros version only shows if I pick Win7.

The fact that it still hasnt been updated to support this system is pretty damn pathetic.

I am surprised it hasn't been. Windows 8 has been out awhile now why don't you email gigabyte support maybe they have a release date or beta you can try.

Reply from Gigabyte, to anyone wondering:
Hi Thor,

since the 7-series motherboards are EOL some time back and the new motherboards does not have any Atheros LAN chip we have not updated the software for older motherboards. Chipset manufacturers often drop the support for older chipsets and does provide us with drivers etc so we cannot continue support for all upcoming OS.

The reason why Realtek is updated is because the Realtek LAN chip is still used on our new motherboards.

Sorry we could not be any more help.

Have a nice day and take care!

Best regards,
