GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK + Plextor PX-G128M6e
« on: October 15, 2014, 08:18:15 am »
Hi All,

This is going to be a straight forward question,

I already bought the GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK motherboard.

The problem is, after checking the support M.2 list found at this URL link:

http://download.gigabyte.asia/FileList/Document/mb_m.2_support.pdf

I cannot see it supports = Plextor M.2 PCI-E SSD 128GB = PX-G128M6e
(URL: http://www.plextoramericas.com/index.php/pcie-ssd/m2/m6e-m2-2280)
I can only see it supports = PX-AG128M6e, which is a PCI-E card.

I am hoping someone can tell me whether this SSD is supported or not??? :)

in this case if you already have the drive you will have to try it to see. sometimes the list isn't updated.  If you don't have the drive you can play  it safe and get a supported one.

Hi autotech,

Thanks for your reply.

I was hoping someone would say "YES" it does support.
Unfortunately, it seems that M.2 SSD is still very new to the market.
And not many people has tried it yet.

It is just like the DDR3 or DDR2, generally all branded RAM is supported
without having to check through the memory support list. Right?

My logic here is the support list did stated that it supports PX-AG128M6e
which is actually a M.2 SSD mounted on the card which has PCI-E connector
to be inserted on the PCI-E slot.

If that is supported, surely PX-G128M6e should have no problem.
But any how that thinking /reasoning /speculation is a bit risky,
what if it does not support it at all. I will be wasting 430 dollars
(in my own currency).

By the way, I found someone in Thailand posted a clip on youtube here is the link:
(1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u4gHkcPoD4
(2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB3x8pFUmHI
The guy is using a gigabyte motherboards, and it is the Plextor PX-G128M6e M.2 SSD
been used to demonstrate how fast it can boot Windows 8.

Here is the hardware:

Plextor PX-G128M6e M.2 SSD System boot.

System
CPU : Intel Pentium G3258 @ 4.5Ghz
Mobo : GIGABYTE Z97X-UD3H-BK -----> mine is using GIGABYTE Z97X-UD5H-BK :)
Memory : Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR2800 8GB @ 2933
VGA : AMD HD7990 6GB
OS : Window 7 SP1 64Bit

It looks like it does support it. :)

Same stuff, Gigabyte support is showing:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4979#
If I go the link above, and look for GIGABYTE Z97X-UD3H-BK M.2 support list,
it too, does not show it supports the PX-G128M6.e, but PX-AG128m6.e is supported.

I know from feedback from another user that the Plextor M.2 drives do work on the UD5H-BK. I am actually using one on the UD5H (see review here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,14710.0.html ) and have had no issues with it at all.

Strange, if UD3H-BK and UD5H (non-black version) supports it,
I don't see why UD5H-BK cannot support it, since basically all
of them are using same chipset ??? ??? ???

Do you have a link to show that someone in the forum complained
that its Plex M.2 SSD does not work with UD5H-BK?

I have not had any negative feedback about the Plextor M.2 drives. The users who have contacted me have done so through other forums, as well as this one and so far they have all been positive.

The only slightly negative feedback that I have had from a UD5H-BK user, has been from one person that felt his system wasn't noticeably faster using the M.2 drive and not because of any compatibility problems.

When it comes to the Gigabyte Compatibility lists you should really only use them as a basic guide. Gigabyte, like most hardware manufacturers, do not test every component that is available. If I followed the Compatibility lists to the letter then I would not be running the Corsair RAM that I use or any number of other bits in my P.C's
