GA-Z97-HD3 with unexpected shutdown

GA-Z97-HD3 with unexpected shutdown
« on: November 03, 2014, 03:03:35 am »
I've got aZ97 build I put together a little over a month ago that I've got pretty much sorted (had some BSOD due to SW interactions which seem to have been resolved) but I'm still encountering some issues with the occasional reboot due to an unexpected shutdown while the computer is sleeping. Indeed, the 6008 error shows the time for the unexpected shutdown to be while the computer is sleeping. I know that the system never lost power (either when plugged into a wall outlet or into a UPS) so it's likely a SW issue of some sort but I'm out of ideas.

The current configuration is:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3258 @ 3.20GHz (stock cooler)
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z97-HD3
BIOS Date: 06/03/14 09:33:59 Ver: 04.06.05 (F5)
8.00 GB Kingston KHX1600C9D3k2/8gx
Drives -
(1) Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series ATA Device (boot)
(2) WDC WD20EZRX-00D8PB0 ATA Device
(3) Generic Storage Device USB Device
Realtek High Definition Audio (onboard)
Intel(R) HD Graphics (onboard)
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium  64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1
Antec NeoECO 620C PSU

The HW has been extensively tested using Memtest86+[5.01] 9 passes - OK
Prime95 runs fine for extended periods
H.264 testing runs fine.
BurnInTest runs fine.

I normally sleep the system so my WHS can do nightly backups but the problem doesn't seem to be directly related to that situation (see attached) and I'm at a loss as to how to proceed to track down the culprit. All the drivers are the latest as far as Intel and Realtek are concerned and all the updates for Windows have been successfully installed. I've installed Windows 7 multiple times and it still acts the same so it's either a HW compatibility issue or a driver specific to the current mobo as my prior system, a GA-EP43-UD3L, ran fine (sleeping/waking) for several years.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

can you change sleep state from S3 to say S2 or S1?

Powercfg show S1 & S2 are not available.

I think this is just going to take time to track it down. :(

Why not attach your system event log for our review.  Also, are you using a start up or shut down on schedule at the BIOS level?
