Wide Screen support in Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M
« on: March 14, 2010, 07:16:05 pm »
I have a backup system running XP with Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M (Rev 1.0) motherboard [Via K8M800/8237 chipset]

I replaced my CRT monitor(1280x1024 resolution) with a new LCD widescreen monitor with 1366x768 resolution.

My Gigabyte Motherboard is not able to detect this resolution. All the resolution shown in the settings tab only shows square monitor resolution like 1280x1024, 1024x768, etc.

With the new monitor, the max resolution shown is 1280x768, but it should be 1366x768.

I have updated the latest drivers  and also the BIOS to the latest available version, but the issue is not resolved.

I am using the integrated video for the display. Is there any solution for this issue other than replacing the motherboard.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,

Yes, have already installed the latest available version
K8M800/K8N800 Display Driver         Version:   22.00.01x

from

http://www.viaarena.com/displaydrivers.aspx?PageID=1&OSID=1&CatID=1160&SubCatID=109

Note: although it is mentioned as 22.00.01v, when downloading it is named as 22.00.01x

thanks for the quick reply.

Is there an option in the BIOS to increase the shared graphics size? Do you have an AGP or PCI graphics card you can try?

The maximum graphics shared size available in the bios is 64MB. I have set it to the maximum. I don't have spare graphics card to try out. :(

Thanks for the reply :)

Tried power strip, but I am not able to increase the resolution more than 1280 in horizontal setting and 768 in the vertical setting.

thanks for the help.

Any other options that can be set in the bios or inf files to enable the original widescreen resolution.

Checked out with VIA chipset support and this is response from them:

The VIA driver does support widescreen resolutions, but the board's BIOS has to "enable" it. You will need to contact Gigabyte and ask for a custom BIOS to support that resolution.

Any chance that Gigabyte will provide a BIOS update for this issue.

I highly doubt it mate. A cheap AGP graphics card would be your best bet :)
