Windforce R9 290 @ 85-90C temps
« on: November 05, 2014, 07:18:45 am »
Greetings,

For ~9 months my R9 290 (non-oc) would seem to have been working relatively similar to how benchmarks portray its performance. However, the card's temperature would seem to have jumped from ~70-73 in games to around 77-81 in the same apps at the same room temperature (19-21C). Also, in terms of benchmarking, where Furmark usually reported ~77-80, perhaps averaging at approximately 78-79 after 15 minutes, it seemingly rose to ~86-90C in under 5 minutes, at the same settings.

Although it might be a software error, that wouldn't seem to be the case; when I'd touch the card's exhaust the sensation of heat would seem to be more intense than usual. Perhaps the fans would be spinning at lower speeds than GPU-Z, Trixx and Catalyst would report, but my eyes would apparently be unable to discern the difference.

Would want to inquire, among other things, as to what I could do to fix the issue or/and if this would be a case in which Gigabyte would RMA the card.

Also, the issue is unlikely to be due airflow problems or/and dust, as the PC would be cleaned relatively often (every 1-3 months), whilst also being placed inside a relatively spacious case with efficient airflow.

Furthermore, the fans would be set to increase their speed by 1% for every 1C change in temp (0-100C => 0%-100% speeds).

PC Specs:
Processor:i7 920 @ 3.6 Ghz
Mobo: MSI x58 Pro
RAM: Corsair XM3 6GB @1600
HDD: 1x WD 2TB, 1x WD 600GB (older one)

Hi
I have same problem with my card i put post early but my max temp was 95C in 100C pc do shut down. I was few shut down before they got 100C.
The cooling system is very noisy like be started from 80% when I go to the game, on background is all fine.
I found on some forum the cards with rev01 was problem whit pcb and cooling system was not fitted properly but I still wait for answer.

Hi
I found the problem with my one so I think u have the same issue. The solution in my was just change the thermal grease on GPU, easy to do. Take out heatsink, clean bough and put new grease. After this temp was drop about 20C and now I have around 72C after 4h playing.
I hope they help u to.  :)
