Z97x UD3H - Reboot loop issue
« on: November 29, 2014, 03:58:14 pm »
Hi, first gigabyte motherboard here, so far everything is good except i'm having a reboot loop issue.
It reboots 2-3 times and then windows loads normally.
For exemple if i reboot, there is a good chance it will reboot, stay on post screen for 5 seconds then reboot again stay there for 5 seconds reboot again and then windows starts to load.

What is this? Do i have a faulty motherboard?

Thing i did already:
- Updated to latest bios version.
- Clear CMOS by removing battery for 2 min.

Greetings,
I'm heading to the store in about 30 min to grab a UD3H & 5H shortly.  This is a great board, so hopefully we can help you figure this out.

This behavior can have many causes.  You need to be systematic in your troubleshooting, make a change, and test one at a time sort of thing.

The first thing to do is recheck all of your connections
Ensure the MB isn't grounding itself to the case
After, I would remove everything except CPU from the board
Use on-board video
See if it will start and run without looping (it will beep)
Now start re-adding one component at a time (stick or ram) etc
Continue testing
Add the vid card last
Verify health of PSU (a weak or failing power supply can cause this behavior)
If it has more than one rail, ensure connected components are distributed evenly

If nothing appears defective, memory is tested and working, I'd remove the CPU and RAM and examine the CPU and memory sockets for damaged or bent pins.  I realize the above steps are sort of a catch all, but this is how you can quickly determine what's wrong.

Ok i'm done testing for today. This reboot loop i'm having is so random, sometimes i can turn on my pc and reboot and everything is normal and sometimes i get this 2 or 3 reboot loops until windows loads.

Although i did not exactly what you said, this is what i did (without success):

- I removed every cable from the motherboard and cards except cpu/cooler
- Repluged everything again
Still reboot loop

- I changed my 2 memory sticks from black slots to grey slots.
And it seemed to have fixed it !!! ... for a while, then i got the reboot loops again.
(Got me thinking it might be memory related, gonna test another set of memory sticks tomorrow.)

Thank you shadowsports
