Z97XGaming7 showing only 1 USB Bus active
« on: January 30, 2015, 02:40:07 am »
How many USB Busses does this board have?
I have a program that is showing there is 3, but all devices that i add show up only on the number 3 bus.
I have tried every single socket including the on board extensions.
And when i add a webcam it shows as low speed on the USB3 and that's with only a keyboard plugged into the USB2 port. No other devices plugged in.
I have PCIE cards in all 4 sockets, could that have anything to do with it?

No they are on a different bus. Your USB is thru your chipset and even though it does show 2 busses each bus is split into different connectors. You have 6 thru one channel and 8 thru the other. So the bus could be read as 1  though it is 2 channel if you catch my meaning.

Thanks for the quick reply.
On the other end of the scale, when i have many devices plugged in, the hardware monitor i am using, still says they are on the same bus, with the other 2 buses showing as unplugged.
The program i am using wont work if there is not enough bandwidth on the bus. It comes up with a warning to move device to a different bus... but i cant. Because no matter where i plug it in it still says it's on bus 3

I bet it is reading it at the chipset and that is why. I haven't figured out why it reads 3 buses. What program are you using I might need to look at it to understand more.

It's a program for broadcasting live video called wirecast. Basically a live video switcher/compositor.
I have been using it for a few years and have found it reliable at detecting the bus inputs on other gigabyte boards. So fairly sure it is not the program misreading.
