P35w gfcard probleme
« on: April 05, 2015, 09:21:28 am »
as the title suggests, my Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M 6GB has suddenly disappeared from my P35W V3-CF1 Gigabyte laptop. First of all let me preface this by saying that:

1- Got my laptop on saturday last week (i.e. 5 days old) from www.overclockers.co.uk.

2- I have searched the entire internet trying to find a solution to this problem and what worked for others has not worked for me (this forum as well)
3- Of the solutions I have found, I only considered the ones that would not void my warranty (i.e. I avoided flashing the BIOS or using UDD)
4- I wanted to post pictures, but this is my first post here.

So, here's my story:

I played Dying Light the day before this happened without any problems, but when I booted up my machine the following day, I couldn't find the Nvidia Control Panel in the system tray.
What I would usually do was right click the icon, launch Geforce Experience and launch the game with recommended settings.
Without Nvidia icon, I launched Geforce Experience directly and this is what happens:

I was able to locate the application for the Nvidia Control Panel, but it fails to launch.
I tried installing the drivers from both the Gigabyte and Nvidia websites, but I get this (this is the Gigabyte installer):

I went into Device Manager, but unless I select "Show Hidden Devices", I cannot see my card (greyed out):

And the only available options are: Update, Uninstall and Properties
If I try to update, windows says it's up to date (which is obviously not, since the driver dates back to september)

What's really strange though is the error I get in the general tab:

It looks like my card is not connected for some reason.
As a last resort, I tried resetting the system with f9 at startup, but the problem persists.
So here are my questions:

1- How likely is it for such a new laptop that the graphic card has already came off? Or, in other words, is it possible this is some kind of software error that I wasn't able to pinpoint?

2- Is there anything else I could try? (I will make sure that the process doesn't void the warranty)

(Question 3 in the old post has already been answered, thanks Oehr and naibaf7)

Thanks for tuning in.
