MA790X UD4P - Overclocking DDR2 RAM beyond 1066MHz
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:04:08 pm »
Hello guys,

I have searched the mighty google for methods to overclock the ram beyond its rated frequencies [greater than 1066Mhz] but came up empty.
I tried my BIOS in the motherboard but it only has till 1066MHz maximum.
So is there any software or bios tweak that can enable greater frequency?
My System specs are -

1. AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.21Ghz [Overclocked to 3.9GHz with aftermarket HSF]
2. Gigabyte MA790X UD4P [F9 BIOS] ( This is the latest version till now)
3. XFX HD5870 1GB GDDR5 GPU
4. 2 * OCZ HPC Reaper OCZ2RPR10664G DDR2 1066 4GB Kit [2*2GB][5-5-5-15 at 2.1V] ,ie 4 sticks = 8GB total
5. OCZ Gamxtream 700W PSU

P.S - this RAM is more than capable of hitting 1160Mhz as shown in this article- http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/ocz_reaper_hpc_1066/3.htm
How do they overclock the RAM??

Hi there,

Have you tried using AMD overdrive or Gigabytes Easytune software?

I have found this a good place to start when trying to get that extra bit of speed from a system and also to find out any limitations without messing up bios. Once you have run the test (s) you can then note the parameters and transfer these to bios so they are there when the system boots and do not have to wait for windows to start before they are applied. (it also means that you don't have to keep using Overdrive or Easytune ).

Also the link you have posted shows the test to be taking place on an Intel based system not AMD and this could well make a difference to what can be expected with your set-up.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
