Chipset drivers say can't install on win me or xpbut I have win 8

Hi my pc is playing up, it boots in safe mode but crashes after 3 secs in normal mode, my guess is drivers
When I try and install chipset drivers in safe mode it states it cannot be installed in win me or win Xp, but I have win 8
Help! And thanks in advance.

when you first install windows after that the first thing you install is chipset drivers.  Some operating systems don't need the chipset drivers they use the Microsoft generic drivers.

Do you have the correct driver for OS and bit type you're trying to install?
