GA-MA785GT- blue screens, corsair dual channel

I'm having issues with a GA-MA785GT-UD3H motherboard using Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B Vengeance Blue 8GB 2X4GB DDR3. If using 1 stick only, I can boot and play games fine. If I try to use both sticks at the same time (in any ram slot) I get to the desktop of windows 7 and then I get a blue screen of death saying:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

then technical information:

Is this a known issue? I have the latest bios version and updated windows 7 drivers for the MB. Any help would be much appreciated!

 DoooooooooooooooD !

 DRAM Voltage.....sounds like you may need a wee tad more, assuming your running stock 1.5v

 Check Corsair website for Max recommended Voltage for you DIMMS and start small incremental increases.

 I'm also assuming you have tried both modules in number one slot and confirmed there both goodies......If your in any doubt, ... memtest !

Thanks for such a quick reply!! In regards to your ideas, I have tried both sticks individually and they are fine, no BSOD at all with them on their own. Tried all slots, and everything is fine UNTIL I try them together.

As for upping the voltage, I got up to 1.8v and kept getting the same results (boot up fine, loads windows, gets to the desktop and then.. boom blue screen), until I got cold feet and thought I better not go any higher incase I fry the ram.  I'm totally stumped. It seems this board just doesnt want to play with these sticks!!

My mb does work in dual channel by the way, my old hyper x kingstons ran fine in dual channel 1600mhz!

 Right.... so  this is an old board and new memory ?....or visa-versa ? and did you check compatibility on Corsairs website for this board (or GIGA)

 The only other thing I can suggest is a little more QPI-VTT......especially if your running a chunky GPU card.........

 It does sound like compatibility or the boards toast!.....my moneys on compatibility.

 UPDATE:....Check your manual which two ports you should be populating for two sticks

Right I've tried all configurations of ram ports, all have the same problem. Never had ram issues before in dual channel.

QPI-VTT I'm not familliar with.. Is that an Intel thing? (im an AMD user, sorry should have stated in OP, Im using a phenom x3 720)

I tried the compatibility sites for both but none seem to think eachother exist (like you said old board, new ram), but the sites both say eachothers products are compatible with DDR3, 1600mhz, 1.5v ram.. Which is what it is. I must point out that although this makes me sound like an idiot, my previous ram also wasen't present on the compability list, but worked without problems.

  Sorry ,, yes an intel thing......You may have to consider popping in the old sticks or .....A new project/build where everything is matched to run sweet.

  Compatibility is always subjective, especially mixing old with new hardware, In my mind I keep perspective by ............for computer bits , 1 month = 1 year...........so if some salesmen says to me this was released........... only 5 years ago and should work great.......I think of it as 60 years old tech

 this is how fast technology is romping away compared to say cars......don't take me too literally, this is just a rule of thumb, but when you consider 30 years ago odd, I drooled over and paid $220AU for a single 2Mb module of extra memory

 now you can buy 4 GB modules for what, the price of a bottle of single malt Whiskey

1. Have you actually tested the RAM with MemTest? If you haven't then that is really the first thing you should do.
2. Have you tried running both sticks of RAM at 1333MHz? If not try that.
3. If you have been running your old RAM at 1600 MHz you may have damaged the memory controller on your CPU. Read this post for more info: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2515.0.html
