GA Z97mx gaming 5 : How to turn off Red LED lights on MB?
« on: June 30, 2015, 06:44:46 pm »
Hi,
Just got my new build together last night, everything seams to run and work great, but I have one problem. It turns out that the board have multiple red LED lights which automatically turns on when it's powered up. I'm one of those people who likes it simple and clean and at the moment when have the computer on in a dark room it looks as if a circus is desperately trying to escape trough all the air vents. I've tried to figure out how to turn it off but to no success, so to my question, does anyone know how to turn this off?

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I know what you mean about the LED's. I have the GA-Z97X-UD5H which lights up like a Christmas tree when it is powered up.

I am not aware of any way of disabling the LED's as I think they are used as a diagnostic tool to indicate if there is a problem. I have taken to putting a small piece of black electrical tape over the most offending ones on my motherboard and GPU (not a Gigabyte GPU) as this is the only way I could think of to stop them shining. My board also has an LED segment display and I covered this with a plastic cap I had lying around that was the correct size (more luck than judgement on this piece of modding) as I found this to be very distracting also.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thanks for the answer,  maybe I'll have to tape it then. Realized I posted this in the overclocking section so ignore this. I'll re post in the general MB section.

Could it be the led-loop around the audio unit, near the back plate? Because these I´m pretty sure you can switch off in bios.

I haven't seen a way to shut off the path lighting, unless its buried somewhere?  I think it looks cool.  My UD5H only has 1 red LED (for BIOS).  I agree, that one is excessively bright.  Since my rig sits below my desk, none of them bother me, but I could see the BIOS light bothering others. +1 on elec. tape.   :)

Update - I did find a way to disable the path lighting (my board anyway) BIOS F8.  Peripherals > Audio LED > Disabled
