This article was not applicable to my OS as its 32 bit XP Pro.
I have just spent several days getting ever more frustrated with microsoft, I had to rebuild my Xp Pc as I was lock out the startup would just keep recycling to the Xp flash screen then reboot the problem lay with the ACHI driver I did not have loaded so when I changed the bios to set up the drive to use Achi I could not go back to ID.
In the end the solution was you have to load the Driver in windows install using F6 either trying to repair the install or overwriting windows however you have to do it in the correct order each time you boot.
Start Windows install press f6 select drive off Floppy and the install or repair.
Ok once I sussed this the main issue was the floppy had ten options and you have to select the correct drive not as easy as it seems.
Now we thought we had a result except When we finally finished the rebuild we had a message stating we have to activate ok open windows and active except we could not open windows it just rebooted. This was with a repair install. In the end we opted for a complete new install of Windows Xp Pro.
Talk about issues we know microsoft want to close Xp support and start so but on every issue trying to find a result you are directed to the message Xp support has ended look at Windows 10.
I wanted to upgrade fro Sp 2 to Sp3 same message, I wanted Ie 7 or 8 which was being used before I tried to change from IDE to ACHI drive. but now Microsoft state it will not work with your Opsys try upgrading to windows 10.
The end result is frustration at the constant telling of misleading information, ,Thankfully I had just installed windows Xp over the top of existing install and did not format so all my data was intact, I managed to find the Sp3 packed upgrade file so was able to extract that and the ie8 pack file so now have windows Xp with sp3 and Ie8 which does work on Xp pro.
I managed to fine nearly everything on drive I changed from ID to ACHi and it does seem much faster. I am now just left with one driver to find.
I will post for that in a separate Thread.
