Is the SYS_FAN2 Motherboard header PWM?

What's your question exactly?

You want to know if a fan connected to the SYS_FAN2 header is controlled by power management?  If so, just check your manual.  If the header has a BIOS option for Fan speed control or Fan Speed Percentage its controlled by PWM.

Thanks for reply, looked in the bios and SYS_FAN2 has the same options as CPU which are: Normal, Silent, Manual and Disabled so I presume it is PWM?

There is really no control over the system fans on this board just the CPU. Sorry I think they started to do that on the Z77 boards. Plus what version board do you have.

The 1.0 board doesn't have any control. Now if you have the 2.0 board if update to the latest bios UA9(UEFI BIOS). You might have control. I myself I wouldn't go to that bios people have had a lot of problems.

The board I have is version 2.0 and I am on UA9(UEFI) Bios.

Would it be better to run my PWM fans off the CPU fan header or the SYS_FAN2 header? If both headers are PWM I don't suppose it matters?

Does your bios show like this now for fan control:

1st/2nd/3rd System Fan Speed Control

Normal - Allows the system fans to run at different speeds according to the system temperature. You
can adjust the fan speed with EasyTune based on your system requirements. (Default)

Silent - Allows the system fan to run at slow speeds.

Manual - Allows you to control the system fan speed under the Slope PWM item.

Disabled - Allows the system fan to run at full speeds.

Slope PWM
Allows you to control the system fan speed. This item is configurable only when 1st/2nd/3rd System FAN
Speed Control is set to Manual. Options are: 0.75 PWM value /oC ~ 2.50 PWM value /oC.

If it doesn't have this than you can't change the fan speed. Plus don't switch fan headers.

To what you ask and by what you said then it is yes. Then you should be able to adjust the speed using PWM. But now not having that feature before you did the bios update will it work. The only thing you can do it try it.

Thanks for your help, now is it better to run my PWM fans with the CPU off the CPU header or from the other PWM header SYS_FAN2? I don't suppose it makes any difference as both headers are PWM.

To what you ask and by what you said then it is yes. Then you should be able to adjust the speed using PWM. But now not having that feature before you did the bios update will it work. The only thing you can do it try it.

Again I'm going to ask if all system fan now with the bios update have they own control? Or is it still only CPU that has the only control. There is a reason they have them mark CPU and System ports.

You can run it that way but the CPU should be connected to the CPU port. That way the bios can speed up or slow down the fan on temp change. If you change it and the CPU heats up and you have it plug into another port the CPU fan will not change.

The other thing is what is the system fan for and what are you trying to do with it?
